Big Sky suspends officials

If every team thinks that they are getting jobbed by the officials, then they must be doing a good job. :D

...to help idaho cope with this great no call...
...may zen suggest to all griz fans...
...eat more potatoes...

...now..get over it...

... :loser: ...

i talked to someone whos been at all the griz home and some away games about that official and he said he'd never seen him before. he also said that official actually said to cam the first one was'nt a foul but he'd heard cam talking back and forth with a player from the other team and that's why he called it. that official really was an idiot and i hope we never see him again.

Looking at the replay there was 0.3 seconds on the game clock when the timeout was signaled in a jumble of flailing arms. There is no way a ref can recognize the hand signal and respond within 0.3 seconds. The call was correct - the BSC officials doing the reviewing are wrong.

It was pretty obvious, IMHO, that a timeout was called. We got a break...

And Eric Curry getting suspended??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That's just an additional bonus to enjoy...

PR you are a moron who can't see past the maroon colored glasses you bought from the bookstore...

It was pretty damn obvious. Most Griz fans understand we caught a break. Just because you don't like me doesn't change the facts...

BozGriz, you're the moron. I didn't say anything about whether we got a break or not. Why can't you stick to the subject? I point out that you said something stupid, by asking you a question. You come back on a different topic, and call me a moron. Why can't you either answer the question or keep your mouth shut? I have some theories on this, but I'll refrain for now.

OK PR, I'll play. Here's the article from ESPN with Jon Kasper (a devoted Griz in his past) and Commissioner Fullerton's comments. The question isn't what happened, its the fact that they should have gone to the video and they chose not too...

Is that on topic enough for you???

HELENA, Mont. -- The Big Sky Conference suspended three officials for their incorrect ruling in the Montana-Idaho State last weekend, commissioner Doug Fullerton said Monday.

Eric Curry, Bob Scofield and Scott Harris will be suspended for one game each.

In Sunday game at Pocatello, Idaho, the score was tied at 58 in the final second when a Montana player called for a timeout after securing a rebound.

According to a statement from the conference, television replays confirmed the timeout was recognized by the officials before the final horn.

The statement said Montana had used its allotment of timeouts and should have been called for a technical foul, awarding Idaho State two free-throw attempts with time still on the clock. After the technical foul shots, Montana should have taken possession, the statement said.

Instead, the officials ruled that the timeout was recognized simultaneously with the final horn.

Curry, the head official, made the incorrect call, said Jon Kasper, director of media relations for the Big Sky. However, the game was televised, so all three officials had the option to use replay to determine how much time remained when the timeout was recognized.

They chose not to review the play, and Montana went on to win the game 73-62 in overtime.

"We give officials great flexibility to interpret plays within the rules," Fullerton said. "We never allow officials to set aside a rule. We're not sure whether the game would have ended on the free throw line, but Idaho State should have been given that opportunity."

Reached at his office in Minneapolis on Monday, Curry declined to comment.

The NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee does not recognize or allow protests, so the outcome of the game will not change, the statement said.

Well it is a good f**king time Griz got some good luck.

Still, Tinkle, or just as important, the assistant coaches, should have ingrained it into the players during the last time out that they were out of timeouts. Of course, if Tinkle, or the assistant coaches didn't know how many timeouts remaining, then someone on the coaching staff wasn't doing their job.

Just can rely on good luck all the time.

I don't know what kind of drugs your on but I believe the Griz screwed over Sac St. ahhhhhhh about 2 years ago. I think the scorer's table took away a point from the game score. Pretty f***'n stupid. but right the Griz never get any breaks.

   :stupid: I love how every ISU Bengal and all their fans walk on water and can never do wrong. It reminds me of a couple of years back when Dlouhy went up to challenge a shot by ISU's Kinghorn? (could be wrong on the name), grabbed Kinghorn's arm instead of the ball and took him to the ground. Now, he was obviously just going for the ball and being aggressive (still a foul no matter what) but as Dlouhy went over and offered his hand to help Kinghorn up, he jumped up and took a swing at Dlouhy. I still hear ISU fans whine about this play even though it was incidental and prob. unintentional due to him immediately offering his hand (it was all on a video recap that was on the coaches show if you don't believe me ISU fans).

Anyways, let me say that I do agree with the Bengal fans in that they did get screwed over on this call and should have at least gotten a chance to shoot their free-throws before we would've had a last possession. But what I find disturbingly hilarious is that the official ISU sports website focused their whole recap article on how they got screwed. It would've have been fine to mention the situation in the article and that there was controversy but the author just kept on rambling about how it absolutely was a wrong call before the BSC had even recognized the situation.

As a longtime Griz fan, there have been many times I have wanted explanations for certain bad calls but I like the way Guffey handles the reporting. He never acts like a child or jumps to any accusations like I've seen on the ISU site more times than I can remember. Idk, can they not afford to hire a sports information director that is actually professional down in Poke-a-fellow? It's one thing for fans to complain on a message board or wherever but an actual school official to publicly show contempt for the conference and its affiliate processes is a totally different thing. Shouldn't there be some kind of repercussion for a school's SID for any misinformation that has yet to substantiated by the BSC? Kind of like a coach complaining about the reffing on the post-game.....

The Griz pissed away too many timeouts earlier in the game which should have come back to haunt them. It looked like they had found a new way to lose a close game, but the refs missed the call. It was a damn close call and not a egregious mistake. Do you think the refs would be punished if the grizzlies actually had a time out left when this missed call happened?

I am not blaming the missed call for ISU's loss -- they made 1 FG in the last 8 minutes of regulation, and were outrebound 14-3 in the last 9 minutes of the game, including overtime. The Bengals lost this one, not the officials.

Having said that, there seems to be some misunderstanding of why Curry was suspended. The replay I looked at clearly showed that he ACKNOWLEDGED the timeout with .4 seconds to play. Channel 6 here in Pocatello showed it frame-by-frame and you can see Curry raising his arm and pointing at Hasquest with .4 left.

What got Curry suspended, however, was that he refused to look at the play again on the videotape, even after ISU coaches asked him to. He said to the reporters after the game that the play was "not reviewable," even though it clearly was. So he misapplied the rule of what was reviewable. Missing a judgement call with .4 of a second left would not have gotten him suspended. Refusing to apply a rule correctly, which called for him (and the other two officials) to review the tape did get him suspended.

You're exactly right Bengal...if Curry had reviewed the play with the TV monitor whatever decision he made (Timeout before time expired or after time expired) could be justified. His mistake was not his judgement that he acknowledged the timeout after the game was over, but in not reviewing the paly at all...

If it's all on video why do you have it soooo wrong. You go on to say the play was incidental? Right. You either don't know how to use the word or you're flat out wrong. Hell, you're not even sure about the people involved.

I suggest you go to the video.... it was broadcast on Altitude.

He's a VP w/ the twins, works in corporate partnership... just thought I'd toss that out there.

Is that the same guy married to Hillary Clinton? It is what it is and the Grizz got a break if yu can believe it. Maybe we can meet up again in a playoff game.

There was another ISU/UM game last week with crappy officiating that did NOT affect the outcome, given the way the Lady Griz were shooting. The three officials were a woman with streaky blonde hair who felt she had to make all the calls, a fat-butt woman who rarely blew the whistle (she was like a caddy to streak) and a guy who went back and forth between whether he was in the game or out.

I think Doma is a great player, reminds me of Krysko, but she got away with murder against skinny Lohman, especially on a shooting play when Doma already had four fouls. It was like the NBA protecting the stars and screwing the rookies. Lohman took her shot into Doma's waving arms, got whacked, and a no call.

And Lightfoot was protected to the extreme all night long, including a so-called foul when she threw up a beat-the-shot clock shot, then made 3 FT.

It goes both ways, but this time it didn't decide a game -- although it looked to me like Hasquet was being worked over pretety good, even when he was trying to signal TO.. I thought JH may have earned a FT for that whacking while guys were trying to tie him up.
