Big Sky ref conversation

So what do you suppose the conversation sounded like when the two Big Sky refs talked before ruling no catch on Hanes TD that wasn't?
1) did you see anything?
2) who's turn is it? We called the last close one a catch, right?
3) what are we doing after the game?

Go Griz!

The only bitch fans on both sides have is, BIG SKY OFFICIATING IS HORRIBLE! Something has to be done to get it right. Yes, sports fans, the calls or lack of were bad both ways yesterday, but how is that different than any other Big Sky Game? Instant replay will help, but it will not be the cure all! These officials have been bad for a long time and seems like they are getting worse. However, they are not all bad. I do not know the names of any of the officials, but the older gentleman who was the lead ref for the Cat/portland game is, in my opinion one of the best in the Big Sky!
As fans, we can bitch all we want, the outcome is the same and will not change, so enjoy being discontended if that makes you happy. I am setting my sights on the upcoming week and thinking about the positives!
Congrats to Eastern on your victory over our Griz!
Maybe next year!

Go Griz!

They did not even get together on that call, the ref by the goal post came over and was signaling incomplete, he didnt even wait to see if Haynes had caught the ball.

If it is bad for both sides it is even, quit whining about things you are not able to change.

".....quit whining about things you are not able to change."

Ummmmm, have you ever....I mean do you.......you just might want to......

Never mind.

Not sure why there has been reluctance from the Big Sky to have replay... It seems like it should have been implemented 3+ years ago. Shoot, it seems like a third of Eastern's games are already using replay; it doesn't seem like a stretch to have all games use it.

It won't cure all problems, but it will definitely help.

I assume Montana fans know this already, but does anyone know one of the heads of a Montana State booster group was also a Big Sky official? How inappropriate is that?

Interestingly, Eastern petitioned the Big Sky to use replay for an out-of-conference game this year in Cheney and were given the go-ahead.

The reason there's been no instant replay is that not all Big Sky stadiums have the capacity to do instant replay.

If you aren't sure it's a catch, it's not a catch.

Interestingly enough on the crew I was on last Friday, they were talking about guys from our high school association who had moved onto college. I don't recall the specific context, but somebody said that the Big Sky ref association is very much a good ol boy network and is pretty much impossible to get into. This from a Washington high school official.

Just thought I'd pass that along.

That's an excuse, not a reason, IMO. Would it be "unfair" that two teams at a "modern" venue get the benefit of replay when other matchups don't? I don't think so. After all, we always hear something along the lines of ... "Well, the bad calls even out." So teams playing at the out-dated venues must put up with the random vagaries of good/bad calls without recourse. So be it.

Of course, a home team that (thinks) it gets favored treatment from the refs might resist updating their equipment .. but that seems highly unlikely.

This goes hand in hand. 1) You are correct, it is a good ole boy club. You have to know somebody to even get an invite to the meetings (used to be Park City, UT). 2) Some a$$holes don't know "when to say when" when it's time to "hang it up". If you can't get in position to make a call, it's time to hang it up. Some just won't give it up. And the league should have a say in it if the guy can't quit on his own.

I won't say this call cost the Griz the game. Hell, if we execute we're up 14-0 to start the game.....

You can call it an "excuse" if you like (and I don't necessarily disagree with that), but there's just no way you can have instant replay in one conference venue and not in the next one. I think that could lead to a worse mess than we have now.

There is no reason the Big Sky shouldn't have instant replay. IF a school can't afford the technology (UNC Bears) then kick them out. Seriously though UNC is the only school that comes to mind for that one. :D

There's no excuse for not having replay. Thankfully it'll be in place for 2015. Should have been in place 7 years ago...
