The issue I have is this. Most VALUABLE player. In terms of value to the team and he helped them accomplish, who had more value. Coyle or Daly?
It's really hard to argue Daly's accomplishments, 14 sacks is super-human, he forced multiple fumbles and has even blocked a kick and I know a punt as well. In terms of "the best" performance by a defensive player this year, yeah it's Daly. That's hard to argue otherwise.
But I stick to the value issue and I personally tie it to accomplishment. Vernon Davis is a good example, his VALUE to EWU is through the roof, it got them to where they are, him being MVP is a no brainer. But when I look at the defensive side, what value did Daly bring to the Cats and their year end results? And then I ask the same of Coyle.
Could be total homerism here but I think Brock Coyle's value to the Griz and where it got them this year was much higher than Brad Daly's to the Bobcats and the end results they had.
Also Coyle not getting first team is complete crap. This reminds me of 2011 when Houston Roots was clearly the 2nd best corner in the Big Sky, however the voters that be didn't want the Griz to hold the entire first team cornerback spots so Tru naturally gets 1st team and Roots lands on 2nd team, despite having far better numbers than TJ Lee who I think was 1st team with Tru that year. Strikes me as the same, voters didn't want to put our "big 3" linebackers all on the 1st team.
