Big Sky MVPs

A few real head scratchers there, and I agree, the coaches messed up with Coyle and Henderson. Surprised to see Saffron over JJ on second team, and the one that just blows me away is, about 500 WR were named Honorable mention and Jamaal Jones, who led the Griz in receptions, wasn't one of em. Just WOW>

Agreed, on all counts. Does honorable mention come from players that the teams nominate?

McGhee was HM.

Player, not certain how it works in the Big Sky. I know in the FC conference, head coaches nominate their own players to be voted on by the rest of the coaches. If that's how it works in the Sky, then I guess it looks like the Griz coaches felt Cam was more deserving than Jamaal, or both were nominated but Jamaal didn't get enough votes from the rest of the coaches. Either way, with how many dudes made HM WR, for Jamaal Jones not to be on that list is astonishing.

Coyle was a HUGE snub IMHO. No matter what way you cut it, there is no way he's not a Top 2 MLB. Interestingly, I have to be fair and say, if it were me voting, I would have put EWU's Ronnie Hamlin on the First Team with Tripp at OLB, and JPK on the Second Team. And no way Greg Hardin over Ellis Henderson for First Team WR this year. Last year, yes, this year no.

I also think Montana State's Alex Singleton only getting HM was a HUGE snub.

But these things are very subjective and who the heck knows how much the head coaches really put into the voting.

Every time the all conference picks come out, it reminds me of when Jared Allen won the Buchanan award, but not conference player of the year

I like that cat guy's(Colter) write up and his ALL-BSC list.
Coyle is Most Outstanding D player.
Delaney is Coach of the year.
Wilson, Henderson, and Coyle are on.
He makes no 2nd team or HM lists.

Congrats to all the GRIZ on any team. I too am disappointed in Coyle not getting 1st team. Such is life though. So glad to see Hermanson on the 2nd team. Both 1st team safeties are SR's. Looks like I might be right about him being a 1st team all conference safety next season. Really loved Hermanson's play the last 1/2 of this season. Also surprised to see Shaw get snubbed.

So moral of the story is to not get nationally recognized awards otherwise you end up playing for a mediocre team known as the vikings

The issue I have is this. Most VALUABLE player. In terms of value to the team and he helped them accomplish, who had more value. Coyle or Daly?

It's really hard to argue Daly's accomplishments, 14 sacks is super-human, he forced multiple fumbles and has even blocked a kick and I know a punt as well. In terms of "the best" performance by a defensive player this year, yeah it's Daly. That's hard to argue otherwise.

But I stick to the value issue and I personally tie it to accomplishment. Vernon Davis is a good example, his VALUE to EWU is through the roof, it got them to where they are, him being MVP is a no brainer. But when I look at the defensive side, what value did Daly bring to the Cats and their year end results? And then I ask the same of Coyle.

Could be total homerism here but I think Brock Coyle's value to the Griz and where it got them this year was much higher than Brad Daly's to the Bobcats and the end results they had.

Also Coyle not getting first team is complete crap. This reminds me of 2011 when Houston Roots was clearly the 2nd best corner in the Big Sky, however the voters that be didn't want the Griz to hold the entire first team cornerback spots so Tru naturally gets 1st team and Roots lands on 2nd team, despite having far better numbers than TJ Lee who I think was 1st team with Tru that year. Strikes me as the same, voters didn't want to put our "big 3" linebackers all on the 1st team.

I predicted earlier there would be a Co-Defensive MVP situation this year. I was certain it would be Daly and Coyle however. You don't see DT's win that award very often. The fact that Coyle isn't a First-Team AC selection is absurd though.

Yeah, They're all good but from my side of the fence it seemed Coyle was the
pick of the bunch. Tripp was already a known commodity but it seemed Coyle
was the one that stole the show this year. One could argue that he should be
Buck list with Tripp and Daly. It's a good problem to have when you're probably
gonna play NDSU. If your linebackers can shut down their running game who
knows what can happen. :thumb:

No question Coyle should be on the Buck list. I hope some Griz fans aren't arguing that Coyle got screwed because of Tripp. They actually put linebackers on the list by position, and Tripp was MOST DEFINTIELY DESERVING of First Team OLB.

When did Eastern get a mammoth 4.4 40-timed tight end

I get the frustration on Coyle not making the First Team MLB but I'm little surprised that there isn't more of an uproar on E-Griz about Johnson not making 2nd team QB.

CV, I had Johnson second and Saffron third, but I can understand coaches reversing it. Jordy was very savvy and effecient this season, but Saffron put up some stupid video game numbers at times.
