Big Sky champions if....

I love the big sky but we really have to split it up into 2 divisions

If NAU beats SUU and we beat MSU, which is a real possibility, we will have 4 teams tied for conference lead at 6-2.

In this scenario would all 4 teams be conference champs? That's kinda silly

One thing has not changed: the Griz MUST win in Boz-land.

And if SUU wins at home (and I think they will), then it's back to worrying about an at-large bid for the Griz. Offhand, I'd say the Griz are a lock as long as they win against MSU. Seed? No Way, IMO. In fact, as it stands now ... I see virtually no chance that the Big Sky will get a top-seeded team.

I think it's about that time of year for an idagriz full playoff analysis thread....

Yes, but only 1 would get the auto-bid. Don't understand why anyone would care. Many conferences have had this type of scenario for years, including the Ivies (ties, not teams that didn't play each other). Seems to have worked well for a long time.

I'm not a huge fan of the format.

Yah I get the auto bid thing but let's say that does happen and one of those x-2 teams is left out of playoffs(pretty likely). It's kinda a punch to the gut as you don't see the playoffs with the same record as someone else in the conference.

And really does the word "champion" really mean anything if everyone gets it?

If one or more of those two conference loss teams gets left out of the playoffs it's not because of their conference record, it's because of their overall record as at large selections are not based on where teams place in their respective conferences

Hell, would it make a difference if the BS had only 10 teams? the MVC has ten and all teams don't play each other every year...... pure "BS ..... reason is the eastern teams ISUb, ISUr, SIU, YSU don't won't to come to the Dakotas twice a season.....WAAAAAA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pussies , all of them...

I think PSU will get a seed if they beat EWU. They will be 9-2 (from a power conference) with 2 FBS wins and 6 wins over teams that have been ranked in the Top 25 this year at some point. Probably the best resume out there.

Gurnseys take on the radio today was:
PSU, NAU and the Griz win today

NAU beats SUU next week, the Griz win out and PSU gets beat by EW
We win the conference title.

All teams who tie for first plac with the same record share the conference championship. So yes, if they all go 6-2 then SUU, Griz, NAU, winner of PSU and EWU would all tie and share the title.

Then for the auto bid into playoffs, here you go:

Big Sky Tiebreaker
When two or more Conference members are tied in the final Conference standings, the tie shall be broken for the purposes of determining the NCAA FCS automatic bid only, and shall be determined on the following basis:
1. Head-to-head competition.
2. Record against common SCHEDULED CONFERENCE opponents in descending order.
3. Record vs. common Conference opponents played as NON-CONFERENCE games in
descending order.
4. Record against common NON-CONFERENCE opponents.
5. Sagarin Ratings.
6. Coin Flip

At this point, I could care less - all I can think about is the whooping we need to put on the scats - then let the chips fall where they may.

We play in Bozo like we did today and we will do some damage in the playoffs.

SUU wins they're Champs. There are 4 other scenarios I'll try to describe best possible for tie breakers. 1) UM/NAU/PSU win PSU Auto 2) UM/NAU/EWU win UM Auto 3) MSU/NAU/PSU win PSU Auto 4) MSU/NAU/EWU win NAU Auto

I agree here. It's nice to be conference champs, but if we win I think we are in the playoffs and that's all that matters. I'm not sure if we are playing well anyone wants to see us come to town (except the bison I'm sure). It's similar to when we made the semis (yes we did) as the offense started to roll. But first thing is first. FTC!

agree......the point of conference champs is to assure us with at least 1 home game and that matters as well for those of us blessed to be able to attend.

Being the conference champion does not ensure anything other than an auto bid. The only thing that assures a home game is being seeded. Of course in the first round there are no seeded teams so half of all teams playing in the first town obviously have to host a game but again, that has nothing to do with winning your conference. It is based on who bids the highest and UM can typically outbid anyone out there.

SUU would kick UM hiney, sorry to say rose colored glasses fans

aren't you special...

Maybe the selection committee will send SU to Missoula over Thanksgiving weekend, and we'll just see who kicks ass.
That would be a good game. However, doesn't the selection committee try to avoid conference match ups in the first round?
