We need to do all we can to COMPETE with the big boys, not emulate them. That's how the league gets better. That's how it grows. There's nothing inconsistent in that argument at all.
You think the way to "grow" the conference is by "emulating" the smaller conferences instead of the bigger ones? Has that ever worked for any other conference? Any other industry for that matter? If your suggestion makes so much sense, why don't more conferences do it that way?
Face it, it's a fanboy mentality: You don't want to ensure that the best team advances, you want to ensure that UM has the best chance to advance. That's the exact kind of thinking which keeps our national exposure limited to the bitterroot valley.
Absolutely not. I think the best way to grow the conference is for it to get better. I believe a primary way to do that is to win a few games in the NCAA tournament. Big conferences get 7 teams to the tourney. Until we get 7 teams, we shouldn't do what they do.
And I'm not even sure what "fanboy mentality" is. It sounds like a website I wouldn't visit. But yes, I'd like Montana to advance every year, but particularly when they're the best team, which often they are. But if you think I'm only making this argument for Montana's sake, I'd be promoting Missoula as the place for the tournament every year. No one is doing that. I think this year's tournament should have been held in Ogden. They earned it, and the crowds and atmosphere would have been exactly the opposite off reno . That is to say, good.
