Big Dance or NIT?

What do you think is more impactful....I must be honest, I’m somewhat torn....

I believe for recruiting that going to the NCAA is more impactful. However, on a national level I don't think either does much for us. Especially after the ass-kickings we received the last two times we went.

Should we win the BSC tournament, I do believe we will have a MUCH better showing than our last effort.

One advantage of going deep in the NIT is extra practice time and more games against top teams. That said, you play to Dance.

Have to go with the NCAA tournament. The possibility of winning a game is definitely there this year if we get the right matchup. You upset a 3, 4, or even 5 seed and you're front page of ESPN.com for a while with a semi-decent chance of an upset in the 2nd round too.

Hell, we were one ticky-tack foul call away in the 2005-2006 season from playing Pacific in the 2nd round instead of Boston College. We matched up a lot better with Pacific than we did with BC.

Getting the exposure from being in the "Big Dance" has to help recruiting, especially if you frequently are in the big dance. Being a frequent participant often helps with your seeding in the tournament.

I also agree with PeauxRouge that if we end up in the tournament this year we'll have a MUCH better showing than we had against Wisconsin or Syracuse. This team is built differently with much different strengths and doesn't seem to get rattled going up against big time programs or even when giving up a big run. Their defense alone can keep them in games even if the offense isn't quite clicking.

Depth is a huge strength for this team too. I'd have to say this is the deepest team in the Big Sky when it comes to quality talent off the bench. The guys getting minutes off the bench would start for a lot of Big Sky teams and play with the confidence of a starter when they come in.

I really hope we can make it through the Big Sky tournament without a hiccup so we can see what this team is capable of in the NCAA tournament.

I like the NCAA tournament as a better choice simply because there is more exposure for the team if the Griz lose their 1st game of the NCAA tournament, than if they would lose the 1st game of the NIT. I believe the odds of winning more games in the NIT then the NCAA are better however.

Hence the wording of my two choices. Obviously if we end up losing the first game of EITHER it's not a great deal, but a deep run in the NIT gets us multiple games on TV, potential additional home games, more practice time, etc., etc....all things a one-and-done trip to the NCAA doesn't provide.

I also believe this is our best chance in ages to WIN a game in the NCAA's, so....thus a very tough call. :twisted:

Given the wording of the poll statement, I go with the NIT run. Lose in the first round of the NCAA, you're nothing but a footnote ... unless you give some big name a scare (especially, getting into OT). But the broadcast rights to all the NIT belong to ESPN. Since the NIT games are carefully scheduled to not compete with NCAA tournament coverage, a lot of them show up on the ESPN channels. So a "run" in the NIT gives a team the chance for much more TV exposure.

I do...it was TCU. Look what they've done this year...solid group that should go dancing. Maybe I've watched some big12 games this year, but I've heard TCU winning it quite a bit this season. That being said, I agree that #2 is an underestimated perk that truly does happen. I said dance...

I am pretty certain the players would be all in for the NCAA. You don't ever hear them clamor about the NIT and I believe anything but the big dance would be a disappointment. Plus, with as balanced as this team is, a victory is a lot better possibility than years past.

Let's follow up our conference title with a tourney championship and make this question a non-issue!
