Best college or high school team nicknames

Tri-City area high school is called the bombers. The area is the place the nuclear material came from that was used to make the bombs dropped on Japan.

Was driving through northern Minnesota listening to a high school football game. One of the teams was the Squirrels. Thought they should be in Oregon.

Richland WA is also the bombers.

My father in law graduated from Richland. Yep, he's a bomber!

Wow...looking at that list...the winged Beavers? No jokes there. I do like the Maryville Missouri Spoofhounds, but think winged beavers may just overtake that. Also the millionaires? That's just some funny crap right there.

My godfather went to Johnson High School in Savannah, Georgia. They're the Atomsmashers. When he told me that, we looked up other interesting mascots. Some from that list that haven't been mentioned:

College:

Arizona Christian Firestorm
Bethany College Swedes (Kansas)

High schools:

Arkansas School for the Deaf Leopards
Astoria Fighting Fishermen (Oregon)
Cairo Syrupmakers (Georgia)
Cary Imps (North Carolina)
Chattanooga Central Pounders (Tennessee)
Crowley Ladies and Gentlemen (Louisiana)
Fluvanna County Flying Flucos (Virginia)
Hesston Swathers (Kansas)
Hickman Kewpies (Missouri)
Holdrege Dusters (Nebraska)
Key School Obezags ... it's gazebo backward. (Maryland)
New Braunfels Unicorns (Texas)
Pender Pendragons (Nebraska)
Teutopolis Wooden Shoes (Illinois)
Tillamook Cheesemakers (Oregon)
Warner Robins Demons (Georgia)
Winters Blizzards (Texas)

Might have a winner from Alaska

Anika Halfbreeds

It may be a typo, but it is actually Aniak Halfbreeds. Also another Alaskan school is Igiugig No-See-Ums. They changed their mascot from the Flaming Stars.

Bessemer MI = Speedboys

There used to be Freshman Football and Basketball teams at Montana. When we played MSU it was the Cub Kitten game.

There was a intermural basketball team when I was at the U called the "Dribbling Dicks" I think it was a bunch of guys named Richard not sure.

When I was a Sigma Nu (long time ago) our second teams in intramurals were the Nocturnal Emissions.

A few high schools here in Washington:

-Blaine Borderites (Blaine is in the NW corner of the state, on the border with British Columbia)
-Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks
-Kelso Highlanders
-Darrington Loggers
-Lincoln Abes
-Zillah Leopards
-Eisenhower Cadets
-Ridgefield Spudders

Miles City, MT Fire Department Men's Softball Team: The Hosers

Dumas, TX: The Ding Dong Daddies

Good read, Payton! Had a good laugh. Where do these people come up this crap? As I remember, Great Falls Public Schools opened the selection of a mascot name to the selected student body of C.M. Russell High School with three choices: 'Wranglers', 'Mavericks', and 'Rustlers'(the winner, as we all know). :thumb:

Two of the places I coached had unique nicknames...
Alma (Wis) Rivermen and Hope (ND) Hustlers
Yes, the girls teams used those names also...that was weird.

There is always the Centenary Gentlemen.

Before the school closed and before they changed it to Cougars, the Helena Central teams were known as the Greenies. When the Maroons and the Greenies got together it was always a wild time!

I forgot about these two

Ann Arbor MI Huron High River Rats

Ishpeming MI - Hemotites

Ishpeming is a tough assed town in the Upper Peninsula. They used to have a newspaper printed in Finnish not that long ago. Those lads in the UP are tougher then boiled owl.

Hemotite is a mineral in Iron Ore.
