Basketball Fundamentals?

This is not Griz BBall, but it is basketball, in general. I'm no fan of USC so what happened is fine with me ... but the way it happened just drives me crazy. USC could have put their game against Providence away, just by hitting foul shots. But they missed the front end of two one-and-ones -- the first break down of fundamentals since foul shots should be automatic. But they aren't because few players want to work on them enough make them automatic. Even then USC could have won, except for another two breakdowns in fundamentals, one of them egregiously stupid. First, they did not block out on a rebound, so they lost that on an out-of-bounds to Providence. Then, on the in-bounds play they made the one truly inexcusable mistake: They let a Providence player get free right under the basket for an easy layup to win the game.

I know the coaches try to teach them this stuff ... so how does such a stupid, boneheaded play happen? Answer: Shooting is fun, everything else is a chore, so guess what they pay the most attention to and work on the hardest?
 
LG lost a couple of games the same way this year.

Purdue and Baylor lost by flying down the court out of control and losing possession at the end of the game. Hate those guys too. Can you guess who my picks were in those 3 games?

Actually, we had not picked USC so that part was okay. But "ditto" on the other two. :(

I hit the trifecta...
 
Not only free throws missed but basic ball out of bounds stuff. Like Lopez in the Reno game, USC had a major mental break down. They are a young team but no excuses for what they did the last 5 seconds with the ball and the lead. But, I think the PAC 12 is very down this year and has been on a slide since they decided to focus more on the "all everything" players who have great talent but it is individually demonstrated. I don't see lot of "team basketball" from a lot of the Big Guys. Arizona certainly showed that. The fundamentals need to be taught and should emphasize free throws and TEAM play.
 
I'm holding the PAC12 in almost the same regard as the Big Sky after today.

As for my bracket, "Boom, Boom, out went the lights!"

I think the top 4 Big Sky teams could have done ok this year playing PAC12 home and home.. That would have filled the field houses of the BSC. I knew the PAC12 would be disaster in the NCAA when Oregon State and Colorado were selected over South Carolina. Utah MIGHT win one more. Oregon, a #1 seed..gd luck to the ducks third round and out, if that.

The notable exception to several of these teams is Utah. LK clearly has his group of unselfish guys playing with discipline, poise, toughness, and unity. The game Saturday with Gonzaga should be a dandy.

UM played Gonzaga vastly better than Utah did tonight...a total blow out by a team that should have been in the NIT but All the PAC 12 schools were over rated all year. Too many stars, not enough team players and coaches that think they are rehearsing for the NBA....just a sad show all around. I've seen Oregon play and don't think highly of them. If they get on a hot streak they might pull it out, but a Number One seed? Not this year...

The Gonzaga team that UM played was not the same team that played Utah......Utah would have beat that Gonzaga team by 30......
