Available Coaches?

Such a lowlife kick in the gut that "Cowboy Joe" did to the Griz would have been better served if he had left right before the Eastern Washington game 11/16/2002 than to carry on the discreet charade. Allowing what was left of the Griz Coaching Staff to concentrate on the games at hand that were left in the season. What "Cowboy Joe" did to the Griz resulted in the 2007 recruiting Class that could only sign six high school players and not much else, didn't exactly impress me; and of those I can only remember two that stuck around for four years: Ryan Fetherston and Jeff Larsen.

How did a guy who left in 2002 have anything to do with a recruiting class 5 years later?

UM is a premier football program in the FCS. I'm sure there will be no lack of candidates for the position. My only question is: What will be the offensive & defensive philosophies of whomever applies? Do we want a Hauck-style offense/defense? Or, to we want the Pflu/Breske style?

I would like to see a young up & coming guy...whoever it is keep my offense wide open & my defense "foaming at the mouth like a bunch of wild dogs!" An A.D. first would be nice but dont be surprised in this situation if a head coach is hired before the AD!

It would be great if the new guy can get in place before school is out for this semester. Time to move forward!

WHY ARE WE NOT TALKING MORE ABOUT THIS MAN!?!?!?

He is a former Grizzly QB.
He's coached at all levels.
He should be on the short list.
:ugeek:

Also he lives in MT for parts of the year. And has two kids that went to UM. I would think the Griz would be a step up from the Omaha Nighthawks as well.

I especially like reading this part...

"After this Bart Andrus continued his — now 25 year running — coaching career and advanced to coaching at collegiate level when he served as head coach at Rocky Mountain College for one season in 1996. For this he received the 1996 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Coach of the Year Award because of his efforts in restructuring a struggling program that had not managed to win a game in four years. With Andrus at the helm, Rocky Mountain ended the season at 6–4 with their offense ranking first in the nation."

As stated,.."What "Cowboy Joe" did to the Griz resulted in the 2007 recruiting Class that could only sign six high school plalers and not much else." O.K., I'll accept the fact that that statment is up to interpretation and subsequent events, recruiting classes, were allowed to be as large as they were because of the lack of a 2002 recruiting class of any significance considering the "numbers" involved, not the quality of those that stuck around from that class.

In 2003, Bobby Hauck's first year, there were 34 freshmen listed, as best as I can count; some redshirts and mostly right out of high school < http://egriz.com/football/yr2003/montana-grizzlies-football-roster/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
22 sophomores along with 15 juniors and only 12 seniors, Not much to worry about on making certain there are enough bodies around to fill whatever positions are needed.

Then comes 2004 and there are about 41 freshmen. http://www.egriz.com/football/yr2004/montana-grizzlies-football-roster/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ...but only 11 sophomores listed along with 13 juniors and 19 seniors. Some transfers and some redshirts, but a mighty small sophomore contingent that I believe IMHO was a result of the 2002 recruiting Class that Glenn put together. 41 freshmen players are a lot of new and redshirt players combined to make up one class but I would surmise that it was necessary in order to fill in the roster and have enough players around to fill in as necessary.

In 2005 39 freshmen with about 23 lasting four years or so. A good recruiting class < http://www.egriz.com/football/yr2005/montana-grizzlies-football-roster/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ...but with only 12 seniors and only 15 juniors along with about 22 sophomores. Again, with some transfers that came in taking up roster spots along with the holdovers from previous years, but still a very good class of new recruits that help get the Griz to the NC in 2008 and 2009; but an awefully young team at this point, as I would say, because, still, the 2002 recruiting class was so small in production subsequent years had to fill in where 2002 failed.

37 freshmen listed in 2006 with only 12 seniors and 20 juniors along with 21 sophomores < http://www.egriz.com/football/yr2006/montana-grizzlies-football-roster/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I would suppose it is a combination of Bobby Hauck as a first time Head Coach on the recruiting trail as well that contributed to 2007, along with the initial 2002 class being so meager; I'd have to agree, it wasn't completely Glenn's fault, but I can't say it wasn't a majority of the case, but it greatly contributed to subsequent recruiting classes being larger than normal resulting in 2007 being but six or seven at most. This, a combination of transfers that did or didn't pan out, and incoming freshmen that stuck around for four years. I can understand the larger than normal recruiting classes from 2004 on to 2006 since FCS only allows 63 while the FBS allows 85. And we need to have players on the field, whether they're seniors, juniors, sophomores or redshirt freshmen. The Athletic Department would be somewhat taken aback it the UofM football program couldn't field enough players to play a game. Not good for PR.

I used to be able to secure access to the 2007 roster but I can't acquire anything other than the 2001 roster each time I try. But, as memory serves me correctly, the recruiting class and incoming freshmen for that year was mighty small in comparison; at least in comparison to previous years of 34, 41, 39 and 37 freshmen needed to fill in the ranks from 2003 through to 2006.

There really should be no "due process" when it comes to students. Athletes, or not. Salaried employees is another matter.

Students of all brands should not have the rights to due process we as americans are given by law?

I do think both academic and athletic scholarships students should follow the same behavior codes and face the same punishments for any transgression. But all students should have due process granted to all americans.

But your thinking is obviously the thinking Mr Royce Engstrom and most of the mob on this board believe. Guilty until proven innocent, and even then it wont matter as the punishment will be dealt before any student is able to have due process.

Tyranny of the Majority. Germany before Hitler was a democracy, he was brought to power by people willing to sacrifice theirs and others due process and freedoms to feel better about themselves. Many on this board remind me that this can happen again and does happen in democracies just like ours.

There is no bogey man like hitler here, but people are willing to sacrifice the freedoms and due process america stands for to feel better in missoula now and that is disturbing.

Wow! You went through a whole entire post and didn't say Lynch-mob.

These names might be a stretch, but how about Dennis Green or Herm Edwards?

Green has college experience, as he coached at Northwestern and Stanford. If my memory serves me correctly he coached in the UFL not too long ago (or is still there or the league folded).

Herm Edwards on the other hand, he does not have college experience. I wonder if he'd want to be a head coach again, either at the collegiate or pro level.

I wonder if the NCAA or individual conferences had something similar to the "Rooney Rule" to make sure that at least one minority is interviewed for a head coaching position.
Or how about Jerry Glanville and Mouse Davis?

What would the thought be on Humboldt States Head Football Coach Rob Smith. He has turned around a terrible program being ready to be dropped and won the GNAC conference. He also was very successful at Western Washington. The program is clean solid program.

Don't know what Kramer would do for our off-the-field issues, but it sure would be fun to see him coaching the Griz. Say what you will, but the guy knows hard-nosed football.

There will be complaining that he's not good enough because he's coming from a small school with not enough experience at "this level" (see MVD). My honest opinion is after the season look for a coach...let all apply...and make public the 5 (or whatever) finalists so we can hash them out here on eGriz...then hire the one we thought would do the worst job.

I don’t know about you, but I think it’s a match made in heaven.

Oh, Khrist. Forget Kramer. BTW, does he run a Pflu-style offense? Forget Kramer. We need a young, talented, up & comer, preferably w/ UM ties, now an asst at the FBS or Pro level, who believes he can lead the Griz to another NC while he's here. We need another Bobby Hauck with a Pflu offensive philosophy and a Breske defensive philosophy.
