Available Coaches?

UM hopes to have interim coach and AD named by end of the week. Details on search for replacement will be released as process moves forward

I have a feeling that the admin will look for a coach that does not have ties to the program. They will want someone that will bring in an outside perspective to get as far away from the current believed culture of the program.

When it comes to hiring a coach, regardless of situation, I believe it is always best to stick those that bleed your school colors. Those who bleed school colors will be more committed and care more to restore things than anyone outside. As for AD, and behind the scenes administration, I have no problem with an outsider.

Hell, if we want a disciplinarian, with no tolerance, that loves Montana, call Bobby Knight for AD. Tell me someone like that would have anything but ZERO tolerance.

Let's go up north and get Dave Dickenson back in Montana! Has experience now and would instantly restore credibility and erase any fan apprehension.

Not sure how good a coach Dave D would make but you are spot on with the credibility and fan apprehension part...

Is the Phlu the only one to go, or is it the entire coaching staff? Any thoughts on making Rosenbach the HC for the next year?

You guys are unbelievably stupid If you think Dan Hawkins would be a bad hire for an FCS program like Montana. The guy that turned Boise State into what it is today, yeah we really don't want that guy

It is not about who would be the best coach, it is about who is known as a disciplinarian with a history of success with a clean program. I do not see Hawkins as that type of guy.

Yeah and he really showed his genius at CSU too. But then again why should that count for anything? Its only his latest gig. Shouldn't mean anything at all.

Speaking of genius... Hawkins didn't coach at CSU. :twocents:

I am sincerely worried that Hawkins is going to be the guy.

Just like in Boulder, our team is in disarray following an era of bad conduct by our players, and Hawkins is seen (still, for some reason) as a high-character guy who recruits high-character guys to his program, regardless of how badly they suck at football.

Sigh. I'd rather they just kill me and get it over with so I don't have to waste one of MY bullets.

It was not Hawkins who made Boise State what is is today it was Dirk Koetter.

I am thinking Mike Van Diest has to be high on President Engstrom's list. Guy is a winner, great recruiter, runs a character program, and is a disciplanarian. I think the Griz job would be the one to make him think about leaving Carroll College.

Dave Dickinson - he's got a few years of coaching under his belt, and Griz football has never been more entertaining than when he was under center. Give him a call!

I would love to see that, but hasn't he been asked to come before? Or am I imagining things again?

You've gotta remember, my brain is clogged with malted hops and bong resin.

I don't know why people suggest Dickinson as a coach.. he has virtually no experience as a coach.. is that what we really want out of this program? His coaching experience doesn't even include college, which is a whole different ball game than knowing Xs and Os as a pro coordinator.

I'm on the record for supporting Brent Pease, however, we missed the boat on that one, he is the OC at Florida now. Tim Hauck was one of the smartest coaches that I had when I played there, not sure he would take it though. Glen could come back, but how big of a dick move would that be when we play his team first?

I think you're going to see a very similar situation to the Ohio State season last year. You lose a coach when nobody else is available, you call up one of your coordinators for one year, keep the system intact and utilize what you have. You're not going to find the coach you want right now, he already has a job somewhere. By waiting a year you risk having a mediocre season, but you also set yourself up to be looking for a coach as soon as transitions start happening after next season. If we hire somebody now we have a coach and will have to wait until next season is over to find somebody else. In my opinion, you let Rosie take over this season on an interim basis, find a coach next fall/winter.
