Attention Cat and Choate Bashers

What's hilarious is that Griz fans spend most of the year bashing Choate as a terrible coach, and then he beats them. So they've lost three seasons in a row to a guy that they loudly proclaim to be a buffoon. He's terrible and yet he owns them.

The man has not been a wonder-coach, but he has instilled toughness and determination in his team and they've gotten incrementally better year over year. If he can solve the QB conundrum, the team will take another big step forward. If Griz fans were willing to admit the reality of it, they wouldn't be so terribly embarrassed.
Funny, that's the EXACT tune cat fans sang about Hauck during his first tenure, which, as you'll remember, did not exactly go well for the cats.

Cat fans thought he was a bumbling idiot?
Most of them still do if you read through the forums

Am I mistaken, or has a Choate only beat a winning team 3 times in his tenure....all 3 being the Griz. It’s funny he has only 3 total wins over winning teams.....it’s not funny it’s our Griz.

Well, they have a pretty good shot at getting that first one this weekend.

That's still such a weird stat to wrap my head around, though. Very similar to our teams from 2013 and 2014. We didn't beat a team with a winning record in either year other than MSU and San Diego in 2014.

To be fair to them both this year and last, though, their schedule was basically losing team or extremely good team, outside of us.

I was on the fence as you recall. I am no longer. He has them going in the right direction. Get them a QB coupled with 17 returning starters.. gonna be hard to beat for a couple of years.
Montana started 3 seniors, all on D. MSU started 6 seniors, 2 on O; 4 on D. Montana is also going to be hard to beat for a couple years.

Also, Calhoun on O.
Calhoun did not start the game on O. Brain fart? Wish he would have.

I'm not constantly combing the forums, and I'm sure there is plenty of criticism of Hauck's intelligence from some corners of the fan base, but generally I see hatred (for obvious reasons) rather than scorn. Most Cat fans seem to know that he's a good coach at this level, though I'm sure many would say he's overrated. But it's a rivalry, so that's sort of to be expected.

It is a bizarre trend. This year's schedule is the perfect example of what you mentioned. 3 of their 4 losses are to teams that finished in the top 5 (Weber, EW, and SDSU). The Cats are not in the class of those programs right now. The other is to ISU. But what's funny is if they had beaten ISU, the Bengals would have finished 5-6 instead of 6-5, and it still would not have been a win over a winning team.

Yeah, on the margins, winning games decreases your wins over teams with winning records.

Bottom line, the Cats have gone from being a lousy team in 2016 to a decent one in 2018, but still not at a level to be able to compete with the best the FCS has to offer.

Totally agree. Wasn't trying to disagree.

No, I understand.

Now if they get by IWU, I’ll be interested to see how much a home NDSU team is that the Cats. Two scores? Or six? Measuring stick game.

Choate had an offense that wasn't working, he fired the OC and put in a smart young coach in Miller. Shows he isn't dim. Bobby praises Rosy for developing an innovative new play, yet all season doesn't use deception when trying to gain a yard. Bobby's is a tuff guy coach and if we cant gain a yard running into the line then we deserve to lose. So bottom line we have smart coach vs stubborn old school coach. Everyone knows the Griz will have 5 new ol transfers from Alabama next season so this really doesn't matter.

Note, again, that the play was called when it was believed that UM would have 2 chances to score. Cats made a great play. Even if he didn't get in, Eastwood needs to hand onto the ball so we'd get another shot at scoring.

I predict a cat loss to Word. They have a big Griz hangover and Word has a ton of firepower on offense. To much for the cats. 35-20

Pretty pathetic attempt at a cover.

The game will not be close...cats will dismantle them. Cats by 21+.

I'm thinking that Ty Gregorak who left the Griz to join Choate provides the best answer to the question. And his second half defense Saturday put an exclamation mark on it ! It starts at the top with good decisions - who would you trust most on the important matter of selecting the leader for the highest visible function of your institution - MSU's Waded Cruzado or the defrocked chemistry professor? Lost their starting QB who is the main generator of that firepower. Cats by 17.

I saw it in one of the articles or heard it in one of the podcasts floating around on this game. Can’t remember which. Said he was freshman of the year for the Southland and had close to 3k yards passing. Coach said he felt bad for Jon and next man up
