Reference the Sun Belt member institutions and perhaps this would be a decent replication study? Might even get published. Who knows?
Nope. Can't be done. Tried that before and it didn't work. That's the way we do things out here.
The above was a paragraph from the ESPN article the sports writer, Pete Thamel, would think a nationally published article would be somewhat accurate. His words were FB only conference.
BTW you took a joke of as a post as slight. Reality I read the article and you brought up a point outside premise of article or you pitched a ball and although not on target I chose to hit it back at you with humor, no harm no foul.
mthoopsfan said:I am skeptical about this ever coming to fruition. Why would the FBS/NCAA want to water down their product with a "lunch meat" conference like this or share any revenues with them. See below issues too.
"The goal is for the conference to start playing in 2024 with nine members. Ambiguity looms around the process to becoming an FBS league, however. All the schools that play in the FCS will also need to go through a formal transition process.
The schools have signed a "multi-party term sheet agreement" to commit to the new league. Sources familiar with the agreement said the schools "desire to form a partnership for the development and operation of a football-only conference."
The process of becoming the 11th FBS league is not certain because there is currently a moratorium in NCAA Division I on single-sport conferences. Ending that moratorium would require a vote from the NCAA Division I board of directors or a creative solution for league affiliation.
One obstacle is that current NCAA legislation doesn't contemplate the scenario of a new FBS league being formed. There is not a known mechanism in place for the NCAA to approve or deny a new FBS league."
Now UM will have a team with 106 Montana kids on the roster. Not necessary to recruit outside of Montana!SoldierGriz said:Christmas for BH and the band.
More teams leaving = better chance to make the playoffs.
Best coaches in the BSC leaving their teams equals better chance to win the league.
Gifts just keep coming for the boys.

Those teams never even make the playoffs and aren't competitive. It helps no one lmao. They're just making the smart move knowing the fcs is dissolving. It will be d2 and d1 (fcs will merge d2) get on board. This has been common knowledge for the last 2 years.

I could see Weber, Sac, UCD and Poly all joining.
It seems pretty clear at this point that UM and MSU will be happy in whatever lower tier division the “FCS” becomes.
It’s sad really. You think about all the money on facilities etc to compete for a more watered down trophy. Shoot, that’s even if we compete. Right now this program is a mid tier BSC team at best. we are struggling to complete against programs that spend far less and have much less. I would love to see the days return where the Griz dominate. However, I just don’t see that being the case as much as I would like.
So then why not try and make the jump? Why wouldn’t the BSC and the MVFC align to go FBS? I think it would be far more competitive that the WAC ASUN.
I would rather be mediocre in that league and at FBS than in the BSC. We could at least have MWC teams travel to Missoula and Bozeman. Maybe even the occasional PAC whatever on say two for one games!
It just seems that if we don’t make some move. It’s going to get made for us in a negative way.

One had to have known the WAC would be back...
Go up as a league in it's entirety. How is the Big Sky basketball doing against WAC and ASUN in head to head this year?
Dig out all the old sparky comments in the threads about the Sun Belt. You're either building and moving up or you're fading into oblivion.
Still maintain the four Dakota schools, both Montana schools and the Idaho flagship schools would pass the MWC in relevancy in just a couple of years. Would I take Weber along for the ride and their basketball legacy? Lot more creative minds in south Utah than in the northern part of the state.

Personally I believe the Montana schools like the California schools for recruiting.

Get rid of NMSU, they should be d2.
NMSU alum here (graduate degree). Bad as the Aggies are in football, they did have some pretty good FBS wins and beat the crap out of the two FCS teams they played. BTW, they received a special waiver to play in the bowl game. I think they will struggle with Bowling Green (also 6-6), but could actually win. So ... no, they're not dropping down to D-II.dbackjon said:They are going to a Bowl Game this year, and C-USA next year. Maybe we quietly have a better offer being worked out…..
