Article on Pflugrad

Seems to me to be a great story for Dateline.
I doubt Robin spends any time on e-griz but if he did I hope he knows that most of Griz country knows he got screwed and should be reinstated. At least that is how I feel.
Engstrom is a Phucking Joke, and because of his actions we may never see a great coach again. Who the hell would want to come to a university thats pay sucks and at the drop of a hat you can loose your job even after a very good season.
I say a petition should be started to reinstate Pflugrad.

Missoulian Newspaper Brint: In reading this article, we don't find anything that hasn't been reported in the Missoulian -- other than the opinion of the Oregon sportswriter. But the factual information in this article has all been reported previously in the Missoulian.

what a tragedy. Coach pflu is screwed and the griz are worse for it all too. I know a lot of people who think engstrom is a terrible failure because he'll never measure up to cruzado, which is true. But really he's a miserable failure because he does more damage than good, which makes him the worst kind of leader. if he only did no harm, engstrom could be a mediocre joke for 10 years and few would care.

is that Peggy kuhr related to the newspaper editor who got caught up in that spokane parking garage scandal? must be her kid.
The entire University is paying for Royce Engstrom's mistakes now, having to make multimillion budget cuts in all departments because of a shocking decline in enrollment.

Engstrom thought that firing Pfugrad who, as the article points out, did more for conduct education for the athletes than any coach, likely, at nearly any other comparable school, would solve his PR problems. But, that DIDN'T cover up what Montanan's read about the Saudi incident.

The perception that a wealthy, Muslim student got extra-special treatment, even protection, while the assaulted females received no justice at all, followed by the inane press release that the Saudi student's return home was "all for the best," was an extraordinarily offensive episode at the University of Montana. If a poor, white kid from Harlowton had committed violent rape and assault on campus, twice, was not charged, and had merely been "sent home," followed by a statement that it "was best," it would have been the scandal of the century in the University system. An absolute outrage. I cannot imagine another University President anywhere who would not have been fired for that incident.

It is an inescapable suspicion that turning on the athletic department was a calculated effort to distract from that despicable incident.

Subsequently, Engstrom absolutely failed to defend the University regarding allegations of rampant sexual assault on campus, which was entirely untrue. UM and Missoula have some of the lowest assault and rape statistics of comparable schools and cities in the nation. There was very good statistical data to that effect, and yet, Engstrom did nothing to challenge the allegations raised by hysterical reporting in the Missoulian. He did absolutely nothing to push back against those allegations, even though well-armed with very positive statistical evidence that Missoula was, in fact, highly supportive of victims, had far more resources available on and off campus than virtually all Universities of comparable size and similar-sized towns, and yet Engstrom remained strangely silent.

He refused to defend his University.

Parents, who look at where their children go to school, naturally had to take his cowardice seriously. There must be something, a lot, to the allegations, if the University President remains silent on such serious charges.

His bizarre attempt to "show a spine" by firing Pflu -- blaming one of the good guys by implication -- stands in marked contrast to his awesome lack of spine when it came to defending the University of Montana against false and scurrilous charges.

The University suffered one of its largest non-war enrollment declines in its history. Every department now has to pay the price, every student now has to pay the price, for that man's perfidy.

It was obvious from the beginning that Pflu and O'day were fired so that worthless son-of-a-b1tch could save his own ass. Leadership starts at the top.

UMGriz75...well done

This is indeed what happened. RE was given an ultimatum, and he chose to save himself. Let's not forget the honorable Jim O'day here as well. He had done nothing but extraordinary things at UM.

RE needs to be fired. I can tell you this, UM has a VERY BIG donor that is close to pulling out all donations. You can measure his net worth in the $B's. Can someone guess who this might be?

How about getting the very big donor to hire a private investigator to look into the Pflu/O'Day affair, the Engstrom/Pat Williams angle, etc., etc. Whatever comes out needs to see the light of day. Day by day, we are seeing Griz football, and by extension all Griz athletics, being strangled to death.

In the age of Penn State, there is an extra special measure of toxicity of any negative publicity involving sexual offesnses. I think that is why Pflu cannot get interviews - he's too toxic. Engstrom should have considered that before throwing two undeserving individuals under the bus.

I am ashamed of my University for what they did to two men. A miscarriage of justice fueled by mob hysteria, everything my history professors taught me that my UM education stood against.

They could be permanently scarred over an utterly chicken shit firing decision.

If anyone knows the in's and out's of the Freedom of Information act it seems easy enought to find out if there was any electronic corrosponcance between Engstrom and Williams regarding this although Williams is probably smart enough to do everything over the phone. We just need NCIS to do a review of their cell phone records. :) :) :) :)

Patience............we are all waiting for a DOE and NCAA report. If those reports come back remotely favorable and JJ is aquitted then I'm sure many discussions will take place. At many levels.

Bottom line!!!
Engstom needs to be fired NOW!!!!!!!, who can do this, the board of regents?
Pflugrad and O'day should be reinstated just as fast with a full ass kissing apology from you know who.
Will it happen, no but it dam well should.
Change in leadership, what a effen joke.

You would need to submit a written request, asking specifically for all correspondence (hand written notes, letters, emails, memos) between the two individuals and it would also be advantageous to narrow down a specific time period that such correspondence took place. They have 5 days to respond to your request, but don't have to fulfill it in that time frame. If they deny the request they have to provide specific reasons why the information is protected. They can also charge you up to $0.15 per copy, but you can usually get around that by just reviewing the files at the counter unless you really want copies.

Back on topic here.....

I have one more piece of "inside info" that was not disclosed that I know of.

I was told that after the firings of Phlu and O'day, eh hem, "change of leadership direction," Royce called all of the remaining coaches into a meeting. With a smirk on his face, he said, "So, which one of you wants to be the new head coach?"

Unbelievable if true...

True. And the coaches, mainly Beers, told Engstrom that it was his job to select the interim coach, not theirs. I believe a few more things were said too.

Oh Geez guys... do you have "evidence" of this smirk?

No proof, just hearsay from one of the coaches in the room. Does the smirk really matter? He could have said it with a stone cold face, but that still doesn't detract from the lack of professionalism. This goes along with the hearsay that RE fired Phlu and O'day together as well.
