App State wins first bowl game!

What the hell is LTCF getting so uppity about? You'd almost think MSU beat NDSU on ESPN, smoked their cross state rival as well as EWU, won a playoff game against a good MVC team, had a Rhodes scholar candidate on their football team and had two first team FCS players one of whom may be the defensive MVP. And all in the new coach's first year.

I think it's preseason euphoria? I will go on record saying MSU goes 5-5 in 2016 and Montana goes 10-2.

Happy New Year!

Uppity? Who you calling uppity?

Just pointing out the palace walls are crumbling. That's all.

Don't worry about the mess. Stitt is tearing some stuff down. Building something new.

Georgia Southern won their first bowl game as well. It'd be interestuing to poll App and GSU fans, now that they've experienced both the FCS playoffs, FCS national championships, and a bowl win, which they think is better.

surprisingly i missed it, too...considering it was the prestigious Camellia Bowl. at least there were a total of 21,395 fans watching it in a sh!thole stadium in Alabama.

I'm watching the Marshall vs UConn game right now. There are probably 1000 people in the stands. Playing in a baseball stadium and it looks like crap. I'm not excited if we do move up.

Playing baseball in that stadium has a not surprisingly similar look.

And each school is probably on the hook for purchasing 5000 tix

Well I can tell you this: part of the problem is the price they're asking for shitty tickets. I am going to the bowl game in Houston on Tuesday (Texas Tech vs LSU), and end zone seats are $130-$160 PLUS a $20-$30 service fee for EACH ticket.

If my daughter wasn't on the Tech Pom Squad and performing at the game I certainly wouldn't bother, especially at those prices.

ESPN is smart enough to "hide" the attendance figures -- they're probably around somewhere, but I sure can't find them. However, Fox Sports shows the "official" attendance as 14,652. It's always hard to tell when you have fans scattered around a big ballpark (I believe the current configuration goes around 35,000 capacity) ... but I seriously doubt that there were 14 thous butts in seats for the game. But, of course, the bowl gets to count those guaranteed tickets even if they don't end up going to an actual fan. :?

My thought too.

Does anyone know the attendance figures for the first round of the FCS playoffs that was played over Thanksgiving weekend?

All I will say about this thread. Comparing the App fans and Buffalo fans, App hands down. Not that we have no bad fans but in my 3 experiences both home and away with App Nation they are close and if not better than Griz Fans. They're just good people. Not to say fans of NDSU aren't but they just throw out a ton more ego from experience. There are good fans there as well but as a base NDSU still could learn something from APP. Hell even AppNation doesn't necessarily like NDSU. In more ways than not, Buffalo fans act more like Eastern fans. Here and otherwise.

Western Illinois @ Dayton: 997
Southern Utah @ Sam Houston State: 3,098
Colgate @ New Hampshire: 3,303
Duquesne @ William & Mary: 4,395
Fordham @ Chattanooga: 4,888
The Citadel @ Coastal Carolina: 6,751
Eastern Illinois @ Northern Iowa: 7,062
South Dakota State @ Montana: 14,575

I should also mention the two FCS games over Thanksgiving weekend that drew the most fans weren't playoff games. They were:

Alcorn State @ Jackson State: 23,101
Southern vs Grambling in the Superdome: 62,507

The App State bowl game drew 21,000+. The Georgia Southern bowl game 28,000+ Awesome for both of those former FCS teams picking up their first of hopefully many bowl victories :thumb:

As is the case every year, this year the large majority of bowl games (probably around 90% or more) will outdraw every FCS playoff game including the national championship.

Well said, and very true! :thumb: :thumb:

Thanks, PG. We see an awful lot of bowl hate on here every year. I was just thinking today how it would have been nice (with the way x-mas fell this year) to possibly travel to a Griz bowl game this weekend. Make a nice mini-vacation out of it. I used to be more anti-bowl than most, but I've come to enjoy bowl season. It would also be cool to travel to see the Griz play in some different neutral sites against some different teams.

Are the FCS playoffs still going on? Have no idea, too busy watching the bowl games..

No bowl hate in me. Yet one bowl is not the same as another bowl. Fact is watching football games is fun and bowl games are often entertaining. None the less, unless they contain the words "Rose, Orange, Sugar, or Cotton" in their names they are a greatly diminished commodity.

This year in particular is the pinnacle of bowl sadness!

There are bowl games where the WINNING TEAM can end the year with a LOSING RECORD.
Re-read that sentence and let it sink in for a minute.

Damn I love football but it is just plain wrong to pretend a bowl game is a reward for teams playing well. It really has become a joke. Most bowls are a mere excuse for a community to try to entice some tourists in for a long weekend. I'd enjoy a Dec./Jan. trip to San Diego or Honolulu to watch the Grizzlies play a bowl game. However much fun that trip might be it still isn't as cool as watching a successful Montana team advance through the playoffs to try to achieve an actual championship.

Again, no bowl hate in me. Though be honest about it. Most bowl invites are simply the collegiate version of participation ribbons given to Little Guy Football players. It can still be entertaining to watch but it doesn't really mean much of anything.
