App must avoid duplicating Custar's Last Stand

Custar was stupid. As K. Ross Toole pointed out many years ago, he made the mistake of attacking a native community of 10,000 (or so) with three hundred soldiers. What would you expect would happen.

Perhaps our friends from Boone are making the mistake of attacking a community of 23,000 with just a few soldiers. Time will tell.

Interestingly enough, if you follow the 'celebrity connections' at the bottom of the page far enough, you learn that Custer is a shirttail relative of Engstrom's.

Meh. I think we just weren't as good of a team as Richmond. That game really was never in doubt.

I disagree. A simple adjustment, like double teaming Sidbury or using a chip block, would have made a differnce. There were two plays in that game that blew it open (pass to the qb and when we f'd up in the red zone). I think Richmond squeaked by UNI the prior week. They caught fire at the right time but they were not world beaters. In fact they needed a ton of luck.

Russum was hurt bad (ankle - he had three surgeries on it after the season) and none of our backup guys were quick enough even when we double-teamed him. Sidbury could not be stopped with what we had available.

Yes, Russum was hurt and hadn't started late in the season. Hillesland got hurt and went out in the first half. Russum, who was still hurt and had not started (and I don't think had played at all), came in to help at right tackle but was having trouble pushing off his ankle (he had ankle surgery several days later). According to the Missoulian, Dyk was also hurt. Sidbury was playing against our right tackle. Consideration was given to moving Quinn to tackle (or at least away from center, which I think is where he was playing) in the second half, but I don't know if he had any plays there. My recollection is that the majority of Sidbury's sacks were in the first half.
