Another QB we didn't recruit

Come on, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia et. al. recruit nationally, and don't rely at all on their camps.
They have 20 times our recruiting budget.

Are you exaggerating? Ha

You do realize the Griz have also signed three 3-star kids already as well? If that is your measurement of a kick ass recruiting class then you should be pretty happy, correct? Especially considering the Griz have 3/13 who are 3 star compared to 3/23 for Idaho? The Griz will also be adding probably an additional 6-7 players and Idaho probably finished correct? What if they land a couple more studs, do you change your mind?

Yes, I will give credit when it is due. The vast majority of good FCS level high school players have already signed. We'll sign some kids who leave other programs following spring. Hopefully, some will be signed from FBS programs. But if they are any good, they will probably chase the NIL money.

Oh, can you list the 3-star kids we signed already? I think we did sign one 3-star, but am not sure. I am not aware of them, but I'll be happy to post their recruiting offers and number of stars from the two top recruiting sites.

We signed:

Jaylen Hall
247 ranked 3 star
https://247sports.com/Player/Jaylen-Hall-46098971/

Iverson Young
247 ranked 3 star
https://247sports.com/player/iverson-young-46113020/

Clay Oven
247 ranked 3 star
https://247sports.com/player/clay-oven-46135045/

On top of that we have another 3 star who verbally committed as a drop down DB out of Akron:

Ronald Jackson
https://247sports.com/player/ronald-jackson-46053431/

So that makes four 3 star dudes and five 2 star dudes. I’d say that is a great start and we aren’t done yet.

Thanks for the info on our signees. The real stud from this group (by stars) is Iverson Young. I am a paying member of Rivals.com, and I tend to value their star rankings more than I do 247sports. 247sports has a reputation of giving way more 3-stars to recruits than rivals. It has been alleged that 247sports is better at Western kids than Rivals, but I am not sure if this is true.
To get a comparison of how Rivals ranks our class, here it is:

Rivals does not even have Jaylen Hall in their prospect database.

Iverson Young is rated a 3-star by Rivals, with several FBS offers. Great get for us.
https://n.rivals.com/content/athletes/iverson-young-284311?view=pv

Clay Oven is a 2-star Rivals ranking, with offers from us, MSU, and North Dakota
https://n.rivals.com/content/athletes/clay-oven-298925?view=pv

Ronald Jackson was a 2-star Rivals ranking, but had 9 FBS offers! Should be a good get
https://n.rivals.com/content/athletes/clay-oven-298925?view=pv

I'll have to admit, I had not checked the Rivals rankings for our signees. They are ranked pretty high. Keep in mind that a Rivals 2-star ranking is often equal to a 3-star ranking by 247. Good post, and thanks for the info. My criticism of this class was obviously too harsh, except for our continued failure to sign a QB who other FCS teams coveted. I just don't see how we can miss offering 3-4 solid QBs from our primary recruiting area (CA, OR, WA), when many of our Big Sky rivals are after these same kids. Vernon Adams, Eric Bariarre, the two Idaho QB signees from the past two seasons.

I love how you keep bringing up Adams and Barriere despite having been told numerous times why we didn't recruit them, and for some reason keep holding that against a staff that was not even around when both of them were recruited.

That’s good and fair feedback and I agree Rivals, Scout, 247 all use different metrics for “stars” and rankings. If the rumors of us landing Vidlak are true, I think he will be a great addition to the QB room and we would have him for 3 years, which would be big as well. I honestly thinks he solves a lot of our QB room frustrations.

amen to go96griz. We could recruit the #1 rated QB in the US and some of you geniuses would complain that we should have also gotten #2 at the same time. Recruiting is tough and it is going to get tougher with NIL in place. We are not going to get everyone that all of you experts think we should have gotten and some we get are never going to pan out. Despite what so many of you think we actually have a great recruiting team lead by Green who has been doing this well for a long time

I don't understand why you can't admit that our coaches have failed miserably in recruiting the high school QB position? This is the reason for this discussion. I brought-up these specific players because they were all within the key recruiting states which we normally recruit. And, even if we couldn't actually sign one of them, my criticism is that WE DIDN"T EVEN OFFER THEM! They all had multiple offers from other Big Sky teams, including the Cats. We know how good they were playing in college, because they routinely beat us on the field, and we wished we had signed them, after the fact. But, did we even know about them during their high school days? There are very few high school QBs in WA, CA, and OR that have FCS ability, after the FBS teams skim the cream off the top. So, we need to identify them, and recruit them hard. Bobby seems to focus on signing in-state QBs. But how many of them end-up being that good?
I guess you would rather read pissing contest threads between Griz and Cat fans instead of talking football.

Thanks for the article on FBS recruiting budgets. Do you have comparative info for FCS, or even Big Sky recruiting budgets? If so, it would be interesting to see where we fit in.

That "grades" excuse is total B.S. I know for a fact that Jimmy Wilson and Tru Johnson had several FBS offers pulled because of poor grades, but Bobby signed them anyway. There is this myth among Griz fans that UM has such higher admission standards than Eastern Washington, but it is just that, a myth. You can check it out by researching the admission standards online.

You are a liar. Tru had no FBS offers. It had nothing to with grades. I will check on Wilson. And EWU did bring in multiple low academic players UM wouldn’t, with Prop 38 or whatever it was called.

Barriere wasn't grades (as the main reason, no idea what his grades were). Stitt brought in his guy Jensen, and never considered Eric (or anyone) over him. Hoops is right about Eastern's Prop 48, which is why Adams wasn't considered by Pflu.

Still not sure what two completely different staffs passing on guys has to do with Bobby, who was not around for either player's recruitment, though.

FIFY. There may have been a guy or two in there that could have actually been good FCS QBs. I don't know that anyone could say definitively that they all couldn't play. In fact, I know a guy. And now that Vidlak is on the way, and has a couple of seasons of FBS development, and was a Montana commit, we'll see he can be all that and a bag of chips.

Legacy players rarely workout. Tell me the last one signed by the Griz that impacted the program. However, if Lebron's kid wants to come play for the Griz I'm all for it.

Jordan Tripp and Jesse Carlson, just off the top of my head.

While Tru had no FBS offers, did any fbs show interest? I'd think at least some calls.

Either way, we were fortunate to have him and Jimmy Wilson.
