Another QB we didn't recruit

Please. I guess the pass just magically appears within Kupp's arm reach. Even Brown could look like an All-American there, huh? Oh, Gabe also had Bourne to magically catch his passes too

  Once again, not helping your argument here.

There is no argument. Making an argument that a QB's ability can be in question just because of the prowess of one of his wide receivers is ridiculous. Yeah, I get it, having great WRs makes it easier for a QB to look good, but the opposite doesn't have to be true.
Gubrud was a very accurate passer. We would have taken him over 3 Reece Phillips in 2017

Yep, use your players to recruit for you instead of banning them from promoting themselves.. Haucks ignorant regarding the power of social media

He needs to drop that "RTD" from his tweet. Kinda of a joke at this point

I don't think we need one, but do you feel like we have a true #1 guy on our roster right now? I feel like we haven't since Toure left.

No. Griz certainly didn't have one this past season and I'm not sure if the current staff can develop one. I'm also not sure they care to have one with the current scheme.

Nick Williams. Remember that name.

Akem, Toure & JLM were all generational talents. Toure would have made a huge difference in that final season.

Idaho was night/day different offensively because of the offense Eck installed and finding a QB to throw to guys like Hatton and Jackson. If you watched the spud state contest, it wasn't long before you noticed Guillory, who was catching passes from their third/fourth string guy. Reality - explosive plays aren't luxuries, they have to be part of the plan if you're going to have a successful offense. And no, not talking about the predictable long sideline throw to Roberts, who was doing his best to make a play with a guy draped all over him. Or being dared to throw the ball with the box stacked against the run. It's time to rethink the passing strategy altogether. Why there are seven TE's on the roster, given they're basically just blockers? Grossman wasn't being wasted. Other teams knew he was one of the best three receivers on the field and covered him as such most of the time.

A great QB is essential, but even they would tell you that having guys to pitch to, who can get separation & do something with the ball after making the catch are what makes them great. Right now, it's Bergen (if they could only find him with the ball), Fontes (who despite reported afterburners, has trouble getting separation) and a room full of possession receivers, who typically are tasked with making contested catches. 2022's passing offense was designed for them.

Yeah. They need a guy, (or someone's to emerge), and a redo on offense.

Agreed. I think he will be a stud

Nope, not like this. Like when you have a player that sets the all-time kick return record and you can't even say his name during the press conference, or how about Ford last year with the interceptions? Hell, even his own could have been a great ambassador for the program. Bobby should have been using social media to promote their accomplishments by sending them out repeatedly. It's an odd thing, proven time and again, that advertising works, and controlling the message, whether negative, like the rape culture that was cultivated at UM or the great things players are accomplishing impacts culture.

While Tru had no FBS offers, did any fbs show interest? I'd think at least some calls.

Either way, we were fortunate to have him and Jimmy Wilson.

I might be misremembering this, as it was a long time ago, but wasn't trumaine johnson primarily a WR coming out of HS? I think he was a decent WR out of HS, probably not good enough to get FBS offers, but someone on Hauck's staff had a great eye that Tru could be developed into a big time cornerback.

That might be correct.

3 catches in 5 games this year sitting behind a position group that had a very hard time getting open.

Seems like if he were the answer - he'd would have a few more games played and looks...despite his relative youth?

I agree with you here, but it sounds like you're talking about two different things. Our current players are already pretty heavily involved in the recruitment process of prospective recruits, and a lot of it happens through social media, it's just most of it is not public (and it isn't at any other school, either).

They definitely need to do a better job of taking the gag off our guys when it comes to social media and more openly celebrating the accomplishments of the players, though.

You know who the head coach is, right?

Amen. Why isn't this more obvious to the guys who are also making decisions, like Haslam and Bodnar? If athletics are the front door, let's stop treating this place like it's a speak easy.
