Angry "Former Griz Fan" letter to the Ravalli Republic

Face it: College football is covered on cable. If you don't have it (or are on an oil rig in the middle of nowhere), don't bitch about not seeing the Griz, because you're probably also not seeing USC vs. Alabama. Those teams don't stream their games either.

Just sayin.

two (three) wrongs don't make a right.

just sayin'

I would say us Griz fans are pretty spoiled if we are bitching about all of these opportunities to see our team play? Most teams at our level dont have nothing but radio, and there are many BCS teams that dont even get the coverage we get! Lets be just a little bit thankful for these opportunities!

I'm confused.. is Root/Altitude on some fancy cable package? It comes with my Optimum package that's <$100/mo.

You missed the point. He's on a fixed income. ,$100/mo. can be a lot of money for some. Fact is it was on FREE tv, and FREE internet until this year. Plus was available worldwide on the internet. Now it is a limited national audience over a local statewide audience. Montana leadership should be ashamed for agreeing to such a package.

Medications or cable/satellite package for Bob? Hmm? That dirty bastard should give up his meds.

I am with ordigger and indian-outlaw on this subject. It may be the progression of sports viewing these days, but it has and will result in the Griz losing more than just Bob as fans.

I really don't get the problem with streaming the TV and radio feeds on-line? The normal TV and radio advertisers would love the expanded audience. (Have those residing out of state checked out http://www.vanns.com/?) Leave their ads on and stream it. Do they think that those of us returning for games will not want to visit those businesses and restaurants?

I for one love the Root deal, but i live out of state and it is nice to watch them on tv, but i too wish Root would have a streaming option, even for a small fee? We all need to email Root, and let them know they could reach even more people and make more money by streaming the games they broadcast. I already sent them a email, and everyone else should as well!

I'm sorry, but Root sees things a little differently than MTN did. Root doesn't see it as not reaching a large enough audience and they certainly don't see it as needing to target a specific fan base with extended internet coverage. What THEY and the Big Sky saw was that a sports channel as large as Root is subscribed to by over 10 million homes in the Root Sports NW region alone. Yes, obviously, those 10 million subscribers don't all watch Big Sky Conference football games, but the channel is paid for none-the-less, so the Montana or Montana State fans who prefer the internet over regular HD television coverage on Flat Screen TV's are of no concern to them. They certainly aren't ESPN, but Root is big enough that this isn't a worry to them. Some of you think Montana screwed over its fans with the Root Deal, but I'm not so sure the UM had the choice of being a lone wolf in the TV deal as much as many of you like to think the school did. I just don't think it would have worked like that.

My biggest peeve about this compared to before is that even though before there may not have been as many alumni with immediate cable access to the games, everyone at least had the option to see the games, whether it be going to a bar, calling the cable company, or checking it out online streaming.

Now we may have the Griz in more households because of Root Sports, there's now a group of Griz fans (like me) who literally have no options to catch the game except pay for the gogriz radio streaming for the games. I literally have no other option.

I hope Root fucking mans up and offers a streaming feature next year. I'd gladly pay $120 a season to watch every game online.

Ditto. I am out of the country for about half of the Griz games this year. Not being able to see them on-line sucks. I would be willing to pay to see them on-line.
