In my opinion...we missed a great opportunity there!

Was there even an opportunity to be missed?
The opportunity was that Andy was available and I think he is a good DC. Never said Baer was going to lose his job. Nothing more nothing less.George Ferguson said:grizindabox said:rgrizfan said:grizindabox said:to Southern Utah

Nope. Not sure where the assumption that Baer was going to lose his job came from but it was absolutely groundless. And besides, Shann is likely the next Griz D coordinator unless Tim really wants to leave Philly, which is a VERY big assumption right now as well.
56 of those points came off of turnovers, while another 28 came after a quick 3-and-out or turnover on downs. 48 of those came after the second or third consecutive turnover in a row.AZGrizFan said:Yeah why should Baer lose his job? I mean we are gonna line our trophy case with NC’s giving up 41 straight, 46 straight and 29-3 runs....can’t wait to attend the next participation trophy celebration...

I mean, you're not wrong that the defense could've been better, but damn. Sounds like it wasn't the main problem.
That is not even close to what I'm suggesting. I'm simply pointing out a systemic issue with our offense that puts these "OMG, look how many points our defense gave up!" takes in perspective. 72% of those points given up came after the offense fucked up, and 41% after the offense fucked up multiple possessions in a row.AZGrizFan said:uofmman1122 said:56 of those points came off of turnovers, while another 28 came after a quick 3-and-out or turnover on downs. 48 of those came after the second or third consecutive turnover in a row.AZGrizFan said:Yeah why should Baer lose his job? So we should never expect our D to hold after a turnover? Or we should expect our O to never turn it over because our D can’t hold against mediocre to above average teams?

Do you really think that Baer was responsible for those runs? Did he cause the Griz fumbles and turnovers by the O? Did he give up the long punt return?
The runs had nothing to do with lack of depth, lack of experience, some injuries, playing against some good teams (like playoff teams, including Davis and UNI, or even the Cats)?
UM gave up 48 in the 3d quarter (low), and 134 in the 4th quarter (high). UM scored 83 (2d low) and 72 (low) in the 3d and 4th quarters, respectively. Did the UM D and Baer cause the O to score so little in the second half?
I knew that you were a specialist in head coaches and quarterbacks, but didn't know you were also a specialist in defense.

We didn't have a great defense this year, but even the best defenses would've struggled with how many times our offense put them in a terrible position. That's all I'm saying.

So, in your mind, Germer isn't responsible for the shitty O-line play, and Baer isn't responsible for the shitty Defensive play. Do you EVER hold a coach accountable? Or only the ones not names Bobby Hauck or hired by Bobby Hauck?
That's an extremely good point, and I'd even go as far as to say as scapegoat-able as Semore was his two years as DC, I don't know if his defenses were ever quite as bad as they looked, because they seemed to look the worst when the offense couldn't get anything going, or were actively putting them behind the 8-ball.AZGrizFan said:uofmman1122 said:That is not even close to what I'm suggesting. not a slam on you, 1122, but where have I heard that story before....
