Just reporting what I see, right now I like Trent as our QB and it's not just me as Coach Delaney and Coach Rosenbach also have him exclusively with the 1st string offense.

Last night "Brez" was stopped for a loss multiple times on zone read for a loss, McKinney was just once. The QB in this system needs to be a good runner and there is somewhat of an expected sacrifice in pass quality. Brez had no TDs while Trent tossed one and ran another in.

I assume Trent will come out of fall camp the starter but I have no clue if he'll hold it. Doing good in fall camp vs doing good in-game can be two very different things. Brzczeck has shown good improvement after 10 days as a Griz and as I mused earlier if Trent doesn't dial back the over-throws he's going to get pressured by Adam.

I actually voted for split QB in this poll b/c I want to see how both stack up in a live game (or a few games).

did both qb's run with the #1 offense?

First off, Brez is a good runner. I suppose your forgot the 40-yard run he made in the Sunday scrimmage. Second, we are NOT going to beat people trying to be a running team out of the shotgun offense, with a single back. We must be multi-dimentional out of this offense to be successful. McKinney's limited passing ability will get results similar to Jason Washington, and Kemp. That is not what we want or need.

Nope. Trent with the 1s exclusively. Adam and Shay split time with the 2s.

Brez is a good runner, he had a few nice runs last night, he also had about 3 QB "keeper" runs on the option that were stopped for a loss. He's just 1 month into running the zone-read offense and his indecision and hesitation comes out at times. Meanwhile McKinney ran it in high school and has been running it at the UM for 2 years. Trent is much more fluid and reads the defense much better if he needs to keep the ball, hand it off, or pitch it.

Additionally, running matters in the spread, McKinney is the better runner, as I said not just because he's a little faster but because he's more shifty and most importantly he's more familiar with the system and has been running it longer which leads to less mental errors and more consistent play.

McKinney is a better passer than Kemp and Washington, also a better runner in this option offense that is run.

Also I think it's funny to say, "your agenda is showing," go watch a practice, see who runs with the 1s... the WHOLE time. I'm not just blowing smoke - the coaches believe Trent is the guy right now as well.

...many skillz are required...
...to play the qb position...
...non more important...
...than field vision...

... 8-) ...

Both Trent and Adam will be used-with McKinney as the starter, and Brez coming off the bench, but getting equal snaps-and by the time conference games start, there should be one that has a greater grasp of the offense. Whatever the case, it's a good problem to have when there's competition. I can say that Trent reminds me of a slightly smaller version of Tommy Frazier. Quick feet, elusive, and a nice arm. He's not to the level of Frazier athletically-which is obvious or he'd be somewhere else-but I think we have a diamond in the rough with McKinney.

Just who the hell was JJ last year? He played poor 2 bad the first few games....Damn do any of you guys have a memory? My bet is we come out very slow with our "new" QBs no matter which guy is playing. The first three games will be tough to watch because of our new QBs.

Relax girls, one of these guys will come out smoking by the fourth game (or soon after) and we will be in for a great season. I tend to see The Brez....kid take over then. However Mckinney looks good to me at times so he might be the lad to lead us. This is the best problem we have right now!

Trent is QB 1 by a long shot currently. Maybe Brez will catch up at some point. He sure seems to have the potential to someday be the starter, but he's not there yet. To bet on Brez passing McKinney by Sept. 1 is really a bet on potential, not on what's currently on the field.
I hope Brez catches up. Given the amount of running these QBs have to do, I really don't see either of them making it through the entire season uninjured. Chances are they both get to start this season.

Does anyone voting for Brez as QB 1 remember how they voted in years past in during fall camp? Did you vote for Gerald Kemp, Jeff Disney, or maybe Brandon Niell?

I was in Kemp's camp last year, but admitted my mistake later in the year. Then again, I was also adamantly opposed to the burning of JJ's redshirt the year prior, but realized that probably made him advance faster in 2011 than had he not had that experience in 2010. So, basically, WTF do I know?

I second that notion

Yes, i thought Brandon Neil was better than Edwards, and I stand solidly behind that today. Of course, we will never know, so it is your opinion against mine.

I never voted for any of the above because I always wanted the best QB on the field and at NO time were either of these guys the best QB at the time.

Based on what I have seen, Brez has the better mechanics in his throwing motion, but I am not certain that translates to a stronger arm. IMO that is the only area right now that Brez is ahead of Trent in. My guess is that the coaches are going to want to pound the ball anyway the first couple games and we may see as much as a 2-1 run to pass ratio in the first 2 games. By the time Appy rolls around I would suspect that will change but I still do not see the team running a bunch of long throws this season.

The offense appears to be more a variation on the old 49er West Coast Offense where there were alot of throws within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage, utilization of backs out of the backfield and crossing and slant patterns to the TE's and WR's.

The staff will see everything we see and they will have McKinney working on those mechanics a bunch. Once that is worked out I would expect to see McK as the starter.
