Ah Yat

Split out the dumbassery of this post. Hopefully the adults can continue the discussion here and the ranting maniacs can go hit up one of the Griz Facebook pages.

Just look at the picture....few quarterbacks ever have looked like that....

Here's my take, Hauck never plays freshman, much less TRUE freshman and he NEVER plays true freshman at QB. For Ah Yat to rise up the depth chart passing Brown who has a ton of experience, passing Vidlak who looked very good at times, is a testament to how good this kid truly is.

As I posted in late August after observing 2-3 practices, I thought Ah Yat looked more accurate in passing drills that Vidlak or any of the other QBs.

Still, I would red-shirt him this season and allow him to mature a bit physically. He is pretty slight in frame, and needs to put on some more weight and muscle to withstand the rigors of playing the QB position.

He is redshirting. Are you not familiar with the new (but not really) redshirt rules?

To add to this. At this point if he he gives UM as good or better production than McDowell, he should be getting the majority of the snaps. Might as well get him lots of experience as he has the chance to be a 4 year starter if he pans out. A multi-year starter is something UM has desperately lacked recently.

Well, if he's the clear #2 now, and getting meaningful in-game reps or "change of pace" reps, he could effectively be a FIVE year starter at this point...

4 and change... Whatever it ends up being, I'd be happy with consistent QB play for anything over 2 years at this point. Consistent QB play make such a difference for a team.

I didn’t take it that way. I think his comment was meant as a complement, given that Ah Yat is a true freshman.

I tuned in a bit last weekend and thought the kid looked real nice. If nothing else, his composure as a freshman was impressive.

I agree. I hope we get to see him get some meaningful reps against a better team in Sac State. I’m no expert QB evaluator by any means, but I think he at least showed some real confidence.

Forgot the Griz in there....few Griz quarterbacks have ever looked like that. And, no, not sarcasm.

Most Griz quarterbacks throughout my life following and covering them have been either tall willow trees or spark plugs like Dalton Sneed & Jordan Johnson.

This kid is a smooth, fluid, great athlete.

I saw sac also had a true frosh qb have a great game last week. Wonder if both teams end up rotating a 2 qb system.
