I think that SSH has a better chance of improving. His issue was more arm strength than anything. That can improve with training.

Let's see, SSH throws rainbows that have DBs salivating and you have to drive stakes to see if he is moving. And you think those things can be taught? I, too, give TM a better chance at becoming a D1 QB than SSH. Switching horses was a bad experiment, exposed in the MSU game.

In fact I remember the most common themes were: "Who the hell is he?" and "Nothing wrong with more QB competition." If anybody claimed they knew Brez was good before fall camp, they were lying. The hype later in the season pretty much came from Alpha and Growler and it was because they both want anyone but an african american playing quarterback for their beloved Griz. In fact, they would both rather see YOU playing QB than Trent McKinney.

I watched Brzeczek play for Queen Creek in Arizona dumbass. I thought he was pretty good and so did Jim Harbaugh.

When he came to the Griz and I saw him in fall drills there is no doubt who the most talented QB on our roster was. He has the best arm we have had at UM in the last 14 years. Very accurate and hes mobile something no other QB on our roster was able to do.

You fu*king idiots can keep trashing the kid all you want but hes the single best player to never get at shot at UM. Our loss not his. He probably reads this site and didnt want to play for a fan base that has their heads so far up their asses they taste Lucky Charms.

As for you bigoted comment about the opaque QBs playing for UM.....I dont care what color they are as long as they are accurate and win games. Seems the last time, and only time as I recall, AB played, I remember one possession, one throw, one touchdown. He did prove himself in the time allowed.

Your muppet memory is failing you it was a 30 something yard run not a pass that AB scored on. He had a decent arm but was never on the same page as the WR's until very late in the season. I would have liked to see him or McKinney get a shot against the cats because it was obvious SSH wasn't going to get it done.

You really think you can teach accuracy?

Ummmm.... Yeah.

Accuracy is a god given talent, but its also something you can improve on and its a skill that QBs constantly work to improve. Drew Brees isn't accurate just because he's accurate. The guy has skill but he's also worked his tail off on getting where he is. Watch most incoming QB recruits at a fall camp and you'll see vast improvements in their accuracy right away, just by getting coaching on their footwork and mechanics. It matters. That and just building repoire with the recievers, learning how to read defenses and move through your progressions all makes you a more accurate QB. A lot of that is talent that is god given but a lot of that is also built off of learning, drilling, and experience. You can't compare NFL busts to college QBs who have accuracy issues. If you aren't an accurate QB by the time you get to the NFL, you're probably going to have a rough time getting by. However, if you're a freshman QB with some accuracy troubles, you still have an opportunity to improve and become an accurate QB. It happens all the time.

So, yes you can teach accuracy. Programs pay good money for coaches that can teach that.

I'm with BDizzle here, I think TMac is working like crazy to get his passing game improved.

Additionally I've been hearing GREAT compliments towards Brady Gustafson by current and outgoing players on the team.

I don't think we'll have an overly dynamic QB this year, but even with Trent and Brady I'd be willing to bet the team is in better shape at QB than many assume.

Ohhh yeah, Gustafson (esp with Brzczeck gone) is really the only QB that has good mid/deep accuracy and a strong arm. It's not the same level but when I saw Brady playing in the system he looked like how Brock Osweiler did at ASU. Was mobile but not looking to run much but create space with his feet. In fall camp I saw him keep a zone read and run in a TD (against the freshman defense though). He'll make stuff happen with his legs but he's not going to pile up the rushing yards.

Random thoughts:

I watched the QBs warm-up (from close-up) prior to the Griz-Cat game. No QB expert, but in drills, Gustafson looked kind of clumsy, with slow feet compared to McKinney, Smithwick-Hann and Brezcek

I'm not clear why people are certain that McKinney can improve dramatically (which he would need to do) by practice, but withhold that possibility for Smithwick-Hann?

I'm not clear why people are pulling for McKinney and Gustafson and against Smithwick-Hann. Without Smitwick-Hann Griz would have won how many games last year? I want the quarterback who's playing best on the field. Don't give a rat's a** which one it is. Why make it personal?
