Additionally I've been hearing GREAT compliments towards Brady Gustafson by current and outgoing players on the team.
I don't think we'll have an overly dynamic QB this year, but even with Trent and Brady I'd be willing to bet the team is in better shape at QB than many assume.

Ohhh yeah, Gustafson (esp with Brzczeck gone) is really the only QB that has good mid/deep accuracy and a strong arm. It's not the same level but when I saw Brady playing in the system he looked like how Brock Osweiler did at ASU. Was mobile but not looking to run much but create space with his feet. In fall camp I saw him keep a zone read and run in a TD (against the freshman defense though). He'll make stuff happen with his legs but he's not going to pile up the rushing yards.

all the other qb's could've died and AB wouldn't win the job this year because of the old f***[*] running this ship....
Good move by him...not going to play because of an inept, old, stubborn coach, might as well set yourself up for life with a degree from stanford.

His downfield accuracy will not get that much better. I think either you have it or you don't. I think that SSH has a better chance of improving. His issue was more arm strength than anything. That can improve with training. If accuracy could improve a lot with practice, Tim Tebow would have started for the Jets this year.
Disagree completely. We don't need McKinney to hit 50 yard bombs for this team to be successful....and he showed the ability (just a lack of consistency) to hit the short and medium range passes last year. We DO, however, need a QB that can run to make this offense even remotely effective and SSH runs like he's got cement shoes on.
Implying that a QB can't improve mechanics would mean that you're as good at throwing a ball out of HS as you're ever going to get. Not true. We have no idea what he was taught in HS, or if he was even taught/coached regarding mechanics in HS. SSH is NOT the future of this team. Period.

We are going to have to agree to disagree then. McKinney did not show the ability to hit anything but a swing pass. He was innaccurate on a 7 hard hitch. He was worse on the out patterns. I just did not see him able to make the passes needed. We need to get over the idea that we need a "dual threat" quarteback to run the spread. The spread comes in many varieties and does not need a running quarterback to run it. I would rather have a smart, strong armed quarterback that can make all the throws and has the ability to keep a defense honest with the threat of a mid range to down field throw than what we had last year.
He could have tore it up with half a chance...coaches have their favorites and he was not one. Much like when Brandon Neill was here.griz5700 said:Good. The kid thought he would tear it up at UM, but he hardly played, and thought he was above the program - overriding play calls wasn't a good idea.

Good point. Unless you're a Peyton Manning or a Colin Kaepernick, leave the play calling to the coaches. After all, they're the ones who will lose their jobs, not you. Adjustments to a play, ok, but for example deciding to go for it on 4th down instead of the punt the coaches call for, forget it.griz5700 said:Good. Yes he did...he scored a TD on what looked like a read option....griz5700 said:rgrizfan said:He could have tore it up with half a chance...coaches have their favorites and he was not one. He had his chance to show the coaches and the team what he could do and he screwed it up.

Way too short of time to debate on it, needs at least 48 hours solid.
