Another just entered the portal

Looked him up too.
Born in Florida, graduated from HS in Tampa. Red-shirt ... has never played a down for NDSU. Pretty active on Twitter. He made a very interesting comment over the Marques Sigle item about entering the portal. He Tweeted: "They don't know the half Brudda 4L."

Not sure what that means, but it sure suggests that something [not good?] is going on in the program.

I wonder how much recruiters value early portals like NDSU compared to their normal recruiting... I would think if a player was "good enough" for 1-A, then they could wait and finish the season before entering the portal, but It's of course on a player by player basis.

I think the players entering prior to the playoffs probably has to do with the potential for getting looks and offers during the early signing period

Very interesting read.

NDSU has a bye and doesn't play until December 3 (two days before the transfer window opens). It makes total sense for these guys to not risk an injury just before they officially enter the portal. And – if the writer's premise is reasonably accurate – these guys have already laid the groundwork to go somewhere else. That would be through HS coaches, friends, private athletic trainers, and somewhat shady agents -- that is, "legal" forms of "tampering."

A kid also has to get approval from the school he/she is in in order to enter the portal or the receiving school runs into compliance issues down the road that'll take the NCAA a couple of weeks to clear it up.

I'd tell the disgruntled kids to keep the hell off social media because the coaching staff will usually help find another staff that's a better fit for their skill set. The six kids who left MSU last year are classic examples of finding the right fit for kids. Sessions is the only one who transferred to a bad situation but realistically, how many years is Cal worth a damn?

Personal Story. I went to Fargo-Moorehead to play baseball at Concordia College. The place is dreadful. All of the flat land, wind, and ice during the winter. My car once got blown off the interstate while I was at a full stop. That place killed me inside. I came back to Missoula after one year. This story doesn't surprise me at all. The only thing that surprises me is that a) so many people live there and b) this doesn't happen to there program more often.

A very telling point.

With rare exceptions, the college coaching fraternity is a classic "old boy network." (Which, thankfully and smartly now has at least a bit more racial and ethnic diversity.) The few actual coaches I have met (or seen/read in in-depth interviews) really do want what is best for the young men (they're not "kids"!) entrusted to their tutelage and care.

Of course, there's an element of self-interest involved. A coach who is known to give reliable advice about a player (he just doesn't fit here, but I think he'd slot right in with you guys), can expect to get similar help from the network.

That coaching tree you reference is incredibly strong. Think of Hal Mumme and the ones who worked with and for him and that stupid ass air raid bullshit offense to include but not limited to Leach, Riley, Dana. Personally, I enjoy watching the A-gap I formation and how they tweak it individually from Northern Iowa's coaching tree. It's worked really well for Bohl, what's his face at Kansas State and Vigen at MSU. But the offense is continually evolving based on young men, as you prefer, on defense.

The days are long gone when you put a kid in the secondary as a safety just because you needed him on defense and he was nothing more than someone too small to play linebacker let alone on the line like in the 60s and 70s.

Nebraska thinks they're going to steal that coach in Lawrence, Kansas. That offense in the Big 10?

You talk about a square peg in a round hole for a fit? Look at Mathew McKay last year at MSU. Great drop back and roll him out skill set but running the A-gap power? Vigen found a really good fit close to his home for him. The lineman starting for Delware is from Montreal. Close to home. Sessions was miserable in and around Bozeangeles and he's close to home. The kids from Texas got to be the feature backs and receiver this year.

Coaches care about the kids and treat them as their own if they're worth a damn.

Theres great conversation about this very thing on the latest Griz Fan Podcast yet, they are killing it with recruiting.

Holy Christ, they're getting thin at RB! Lost 2 RB's to the portal, and it's unknown how long Hunter Luepke is gonna be out. If they don't get Luepke back, they're in deep shit!

So nowadays a team has to keep winning in the Playoffs to keep players out of the portal or play each round with less players. This new Date will hurt teams going to bowls and teams trying to make a playoff run.

Yeah, the new transfer window is awful for playoffs and bowl games

I thought the whole point of the Portal was that the player didn't need any permission from his school. I would doubt that the next schoo has the issue you said it would.

This point should be researched.

Sproles probably left to get some targets. Nsdu was a bad choice for a wide receiver if they want to play.
He just tweeted that he is going to JMU.

https://www.valleynewslive.com/2022/10/18/phoenix-sproles-transferring-north-dakota-state/

And they have to tell their school to enter the portal as the school enters it (my understanding) but can't stop them from entering the portal. Gives them a chance to discuss the implications. They can always withdraw but no guarantee the school puts them back on the team.

And yes, timing is important as the new 45 day portal window means you need to get the max exposure and Early exposure to get picked up UNLESS there was tampering and you already know where they are going.
