A question about the jury pool

I don't like to get too much into this non football stuff, but my interpretation is that the accuser has been facing some type of threats. Does anyone else read it that way?

I don't think that is it. The defense (which would be JJ's lawyers) are the ones that are doing the investigation. If the accuser is facing threats that would be a police matter and something that would be coordinated with the prosecution. If you read it very black and white you could take it as the accuser threatened the defense's client however I highly doubt that is the case.

i never said she should say more, did i? i said she buried it at the bottom of the story when it sure seems like the most newsworthy event at the hearing, or whatever it was. someone threatened someone, but she spends most of her time talking about the jury pool size as if to mock it. then she brings up the 29,000 texts, again, that judge won't allow the defense to see and that could sound kind of sympathetic to the defense. then she quotes the judge being gruff with the defense when it asks about other texts between the victim and her investigator(? or was it someone else?). this doesn't seem like the writing of someone that is pro-victim or anti-j.j.

Could be, or it could be that someone close to the victim has threatened JJ in some way. The only reason I suggest that is that the judge was asking the defense about it, which may suggest that they're the ones driving the investigation.

Like I said, though (and I cannot emphasize this strongly enough) -- we don't know the facts, and I don't want to speculate too much. Whatever this is, it's clear that the parties are keeping it very quiet, and I don't want anything that's said here to become the stuff of rumors.

Solid point....I guess I focused more on "threat" and "victim" and my mind wandered down the path of someone threatening the victim, and hadn't considered the alternative.

You're right though....I should probably stop speculating, as it doesn't do anyone any good.

No. What's really sad is what UM did to Jordy. The legal process will work itself out. Unless you are Griz Pony, none of us have any control over what happens with Jordy's legal proceedings. Wait. Maybe PlayerRep does. Maybe he will try to sneak on the jury like that movie Runaway Jury.

Back to the point. UM blew multiple procedural safeguards in order to make an example of Jordy. It failed him in every way possible and sets a terrible precedent for any other student who is placed in the same scenario.

What's the next most tragic event? What Dave Paoli continues to do to the accuser. He's representing his client with all the zeal and maniacal dedication that has stained the legal profession. Requests for medical records dating back to when the accuser was 5 years old? Do those ear infections make it any more or less likely that she fabricated a story? You tell me. 29,000 unrelated text messages? Does her vote on American Idol via text message make her any more or less likely to be a slut? You tell me. Better yet, tell it to Paoli, who dissrespects the Court and the legal process by refusing to obey the orders of a judge.

Believe it or not, Jordy actually deserves better. His attorney is building up nothing more than negativity with the judge. There's a good factual debate to be had in this trial, and Paoli is making it only about himself and everything ancillary to the process.

and if you read the judge's answers then yes SHE HAD ALREADY MADE UP HER MIND! she needs to step aside and let another judge do this case for no matter what the outcome she is not going to be a fair judge in my view!

you are correct on one thing UM FAILED to treat JJ the same as the "slut" and that is what i am going to call her because they keep calling jj guilty of rape!

Let me get this straight - you are now calling the alleged victim a slut. You just lost your credibility with me. You are no better than GF for labeling JJ. I don't know who is innocent or guilty, but calling her a slut is way over the top and makes you look unreasonable and extremely biased.

this mornings butt wipe ran a story saying that 400 people will need to be called for JJ's trial. I'm not going to post a link to the story because I dont want to drive any traffic to the wipe. But I do have a question for the lawyers. Towards the end of the story there is a paragraph that caught my eye. "Townsend also asked the defense about 'a separate investigation going on involving the victim which the defense has entitled a threat investigation."
What does the phrase "entitled a threat investigation" mean in laymans terms?

not sure why you're bashing florio here and not linking the story. it looks like florio has written a defense-friendly story. she seems to be mocking that 400 people are being called to jury pool, she keeps bringing up over and over that the mean judge won't release the 29,000 texts to the defense, and she buried the part about the threat investigation, which looks like the biggest piece of info, at the bottom of the story. i mean when the judge asked about it the attorneys all had to approach the bench. compelling stuff there yet it gets the tail end of the story. is florio now pro-j.j.? :shock:

I asked the question because there wasn't any explanation of what is a "threat investigation". Is this a defense-friendly story? I dont know and can't tell from the article. Thats the basis for the florio bashing, too many stories without any semblance of any explanations as to what happened. I agree with several of the other commenters here about the problems with speculation. The speculation could very well have been avoided if florio had simply delivered an explanation. The irony, to me, is that when I read a story written by florio on a subject that I dont know much about, I question whether the story has been presented in its entirety or if key elements have been left out, intentionally or other wise.

I was wondering the same thing. Not out of curiosity as I am guessing I won't know them anyways and I don't really think it matters what their name is. But while I understand the right to privacy and all that, at what point does the alleged victim's name become public record? Maybe this has been stated and I just missed it. I am by no means a legal expert so maybe one of the couple on here have an answer. Just seems like at some point the the name would have to become public record would it not?

Oh I don't doubt that, I guess I'm not referring to posing it on a message board as much as I am the public record of it all. Not trying to be an ass, just wondering if the name ever becomes public record or not.

That's the kind of Griz-paw stuff that goes way over the boundaries of decency. No one football player is worth embarrassing an entire fan base.

Another hated poster on this board took affirmative steps to investigate who the accuser was. As an individual educated in the law, this person snooped around campus departments trying to identify the accuser, all under the guise of justice. This person proudly calls himself an advocate for student-athletes, but many of those same student-athletes are scared and creeped out by this person. This person damages the reputation of UM far more than even Grizpaw is capable of.

You clap for that? Sad, man. She might fall apart on the stand and cry regardless of whether or not she is lying. Paoli has that perfect touch to evoke tears and uncontrolled emotion from anyone. That isn't something worth clapping over. It doesn't even get to the truth. By asking the accuser to repeat stories from age 5 to the present as well as the 29,000 sought after text messages, Paoli will only confuse the issues and tear the accuser apart. It is sad that you want to see this happen, because it has no bearing on what actually happened between her and JJ.

I agree. This brings out the worst in everyone. I wish people would take a step back. Recognize that we all have a vested emotional interest, but the real interest is that justice prevails.

I don't think people would go as far as some level of criminal harassment, but anymore I just don't know about people anymore. Just way too personal for some people.

I like how you guys, the Missoulian and other always feel the need to link the UM football program to JJ and Donaldson like the program was a part of the whole thing.

The only rape JJ ever did while playing for UM was last year, in the catbox........if it was illegal to drop 36 on a team that was just saying no...........he would go away for LIFE!
