A Challenge to the Engstrom Haters

A simple answer. Engstrom will get the final OK and that is about it. Period.

I keep reading in all these "hiring a new coach" threads about how the "biggest problem in hiring a new coach is Engstrom." I'm trying to figure out why you believe that to be true.

So my questions to you are very simple:

1. Do you know the extent to which Engstrom is involved or not involved in the hiring process?

2. If he's involved, or if he's involved more than he should be, what exactly is he doing, or has he done, to impede the hiring process?

Personally AWF, I think it is time for you and other Engstrom defenders to STFU.

You start a topic adressed to the Engstrom haters and then add a caveat that they can't talk about the number 1 reason they don't like him, or more importantly, trust him. The righteousness of a few of you guys is sickening to me, and I am sure many who read it. You complain about all the complaing but all you do is give lectures. You, havgiz, and everettgriz have such polyanish views on everything griz football that it defies rational thought. Engstrom screwed up with the firings. I believe he benefitted from the distraction and also the JJ trial. He did not hire a good coach and only he can be blamed for that as there was no Ad at the time for him to blame. I have no reason to believe he has learned anything from all of this because a leopard doesn't change his spots.

My question to you is why do you think he will do better this time? But sine you can add caveats, so can I. Do this without bringing up Haslam. That should hamstring you.

There are many threads that describe what an arrogant jackass Engstrom is (go back and search). Who wants to work for an arrogant jackass college President, -i.e., a President who fired a prior coach in order to deflect attention from the President's own mismanagement and failures, and thus, attempts to make that coach as a scapegoat; -and who fires an athletic director with high character who knew there was no valid reason to fire the football coach and refused to do the arrogant President's bidding and was thus fired himself! Engstrom should be ashamed of his actions, and you should be ashamed of trying to defend such a prick. :evil:

Granted the Griz coaching job is a gem in the FCS football realm, and many in the coaching profession will find the job attractive enough despite there being such an arrogant megalomaniac in the President's job, and will hold their nose and apply for the job.

I hope a great Griz coach emerges out of this hiring process, and our megalomaniac President approves a good hire, but quit acting like this college President is not an anchor on the football program, and will not make some applicants think twice before applying.

If Haslam had been in place before hiring Delaney, it is possible I would think different.

:thumb: I, personally, hold a grudge for life. The day I stop criticizing RE is when he assumes room temperature. So, you "move on" people can shove it.

JBS, I'll take a shot at your question about why we believe Engstrom will allow his staff to make a good hire. Here are a couple if my reasons:

1. Pinkerton.

2.DeCuire.

3. Academic Center

4. Weight Room

5. Locker Rooms.

6. A long term vision for UM Athletics, particularly FB, but also including the non-revenue sports ( I know some on this board care only about FB; but many of us care about all the UM Athletic programs).

Now, I'll re-ask the original question on the thread: We understand you don't like Engstrom. And that's fine and dandy. But why do you think he'll do something to sabotage this hire?

When O'Day and Pflugrad were let go, I believe Engstrom was acting in what he thought was in the best interest of the university at the time, right or wrong. I have no reason to believe he would be anything but supportive of the Haslam selected head coach. Many of you dislike the man, but I don't think he's an idiot. I don't think he's going to sabotage this university's gravy train for personal reasons.
