The U of M managed both tournaments flawlessly a few years ago. Here is to praying Sac State loses and the GRIZ win. How awesome is it for this to come down to last day of the regular season?

On a side note, I am hoping SUU takes care of business and Weber State loses. If Weber State makes the tournament, they will be the 8th seed. That team is still dangerous. As a 1 seed, I'd much rather face SUU than Weber State.

They will actually start the Women's tournament on Wednesday so there will be 4 games on Wednesday and 4 on Thursday.

Speaking of Weber State, where are some of their fans? I miss a few of them that can actually talk basketball without the trash talk. It would be nice if their better posters at least let us know they are still with the living. :thumb:

No way a site could host 8 games in one day so there will be some schedule shuffling if UM gets the Men's tourney. The fact that the tournament is coming down to last minute rescheduling or a rec center venue is probably making a permanent site even more appealing to the Big Sky decision makers.

Like said above, if the Griz host both the men's and women's tournaments, the ladies will start on Wednesday with four games and the men's will be on Thursday with four games. Semis for both will be on Friday, and championships on Saturday.

This is what I was thinking, as well. :x They might as well do away with the tourney at that point and just decide who to award the autobid to based off of the regular season. There really wouldn't be any incentives for the champions other than bragging rights (they've already gotten rid of the byes and then hosting rights are gone). Seeding usually doesn't matter because it's more about matchups and in the BSC, a 8th seed usually isn't too much worse talent-wise compared to a 3 seed.

I doubt a predetermined site would make any money unless it was Salt Lake City, Missoula, or Ogden (or possibly Billings or Spokane). And wherever the site ended up being it would always be closer and favor at least one team more than the rest (ie. Reno would favor Sac State, Las Vegas=SUU/NAU, Spokane=EWU/UM, Billings=MSU/UM, etc.)

Anyways, I'm a big supporter of rewarding the champions with hosting rights. If Sac State wins tomorrow then their players and staff deserve to host despite people being upset by their facilities (now, maybe the administrations could be fined by the conference if they didn't provide adequate facilities but the players shouldn't be punished).

Sidenote: the extra day off might help the Lady Griz (now that there aren't byes) if they make the championship and have to face Sac State. Facing that run-and-gun, pressuring team on the third straight day of games would be extremely hard to do.

Yeah the right to host the conference tournament adds so much to the Big Sky season. It raises the stakes of the regular season so much and ensures a good/great atmosphere for the tournament. Would people care that much about Saturday's games if we were playing in Reno or Spokane no matter what? Would fans really travel hundreds or thousands of miles to watch these games when attendance is problem at on campus sites already? I hope the Big Sky doesn't lose sight of how much the current system adds and overreacts to some of the costs and inconveniences associated with it.

When we win the Championship, but aren't able to host in the high tradition of the BSC, we should be classy and let the tournament be held at the site of the second place finisher--Sacramento State.
