The Big Sky and other bad conferences would prefer the later (bolded above), because a win gets you more units (payment) than making it and losing your first game.

Except the dilution is the BSC and other lower mid-major conferences.

Yeah - I....don't know how the non-power conference commissioners keep getting duped by the dangling carrot of expansion helping them. It doesn't. All it means is that MORE teams from the Power Conferences will get in. I highly doubt a conference like the Big Sky will ever get two teams in. This just increases the likelihood of the conference champ not being seeded at all.

This is tragic. 14 of the 32 AQs will now have to play in the Opening Round. Almost half. The P4 wanted the expansion, so make the Opening Round all at large bids. But of course not cause you gotta bait the mid major leagues into thinking this is a good idea by giving them a monetary unit and a "tourney win". This is fucked.
