Basketball for both men and women is far behind football before returning to winning traditions. Holdinger is continually outcoached and DeCuire, based on his interview is burned out
That's not at all what I took away from the article. If he were burned out he would hang it up after this season, I don't believe Decuire's going to hang it up anytime soon. What I took it to mean was more along the lines of he thought he could coach until he was dead, now retirement doesn't sound too bad. Nowhere in there did it say anything about him questioning his immediate future. He's done a great job of turning the season around and I believe this team has what it takes to contend for the title.

As far as Holsinger, he's done a great job recruiting and building a culture. He gets basically everybody back except for Fatkin and this is a relatively young team led by the Freshmen of the year in Mack Konig. The next step to get the Lady Griz over the hump is to be more consistent. There were times this year where they looked great and like they could win the title, and other times where it was like how the hell did they lose to them? I definitely don't think Holsinger did them any favors with that brutal non-conference schedule, I'd lighten that up a little bit next year. I think they will be one of the favorites to win it next year though as a ton of the top players in the conference graduate. Next season should be a fun one for the Lady Griz.

Totally disagree about what DeCuire meant. I sensed frustration with portal, NIL and the way recruiting works. I took his comments directly as it’s burning him out sooner than he planned and retirement doesn’t sound bad. I would not be surprised if he moves on after this season perhaps in an attempt to discover his love for the game. Especially if they lose tonight - and I have little confidence they can beat a tough ISU team 3 times. Hope I’m wrong.

Hopefully, the men will do better than the women. 2-5 to end season. Another one and done. What's with that? A supposedly good coach with supposedly good recruiting, can't do better than this?

14-16 and 10-8 in conference. 19-11 and 12-8 last year. Isn't this going backwards?

Petrino - 12-11 and 9-8.

Shannon - 17-13 and 12-8.

I'm glad most of you are excited about the young players, but where are the results?

I’m rooting for the Lady Griz’ trajectory to turn upward and I remain optimistic. But no doubt Holsinger’s seat has warmed up a bit. By any measure, there’s been no significant change record-wise after two seasons.

If we only use win-loss as the measuring stick, Holsinger’s teams need to go 19-42 overall, 12-26 conference, and 0-4 vs. Cats to match Schweyen’s four year record. As the election night pundits would say, it’s too early to call but I think he’ll be able to outperform that benchmark. So I think we can put to rest the notion that a coaching regime change was unreasonable. The legality of it of course, is still to be decided.

Enjoyed watching the LG this season. Tough loss in Boise again. I think they’ll be better next season and will finally break through with a win (hopefully more) at the conference tournament. Ball security-turnovers have seemed to be an issue for many seasons. Many of the turnovers just seem to be unforced. Cut down on turnovers, work on getting tougher on defense and finishing layups (use the square on the backboard please) more consistently. Will miss Sammy and Gina next season but the young players coming back and Carmen will be tough to beat i think. Dani Bartsch is a force on the boards!

Marxen has another year left and will be back I believe.

Oh good. So only Sammy and Tsineke are done I guess?

Obviously a disappointing end to the season for the Lady Griz after picking up some nice momentum midway through.

Next year should be much improved with a healthy Gfeller for the non-conference, Stump and Konig being a year older, the return of Marxen, addition of the freshmen class, etc — and the record and post-season play needs to reflect that.

Hopefully Holsinger can continue to recruit well. We’ll see if the staff lands any big names in the portal.

Nope. Men's team 16-13 and 10-7. Win tonight to add to that. Have won 7 of last 8, I think. Finishing strong. DeCuire has got the men playing well.

You cheerleaders for the women's coach are not looking so good. There is no justification for the coach's unprecedented firing of 6 players after a week. He brought in no one the first year, other than bringing back a good former player. One and done his first two years in the tourney. Finished this season on a big slide. Bad D and lots of TO's. Worse conference record than the 2 prior coaches in their only or last years.

I guess we will see, but I wonder if the guy knows how to coach. Will lose 2 good starters. Will return a good starter for yet another year, if she really does stay. Apparently, a number of good young players. I assume he's ruined the Native American program for the Lady Griz. Apparently, a bit arrogant. Not recruiting many MT players. Couldn't get the best player in MT, who would presumably be dominant in the Big Sky. You and your cheerleader buddies seem to be speaking a lot of hope, and perhaps nonsense.

Got any racist comments to make?

Only losing one starter -- Sammy Fatkin.

He's recruiting a lot of the top players in MT -- Breanna Williams, Kadynce Couture, Taylee Chirrick, Teagan Erickson, etc.

Got it. The transfer guard stays? How many of the MT women are Native Americans? I don't know. He's not getting Alex Covill of Missoula Hellgate. He couldn't see forward enough to retain her dad as a coach? Do people in Missoula like him personally?

I liked the young team. 3 frosh and several sophs playing key roles. When's the last time any UM basketball team was so young? Defense a big weakness this year. That should improve as the team gets older. Recruits sound to be good. Coach probably learning in his second year and made some mistakes. Not slowing things down a bit in the first half today and up 9 one such mistake. Although getting your seniors to make layups slows that run some. Conference seems pretty competitive with both men and women.

The massacred half dozen still a big deal for you isn't it? How many of them played this year? You're a big stat guy. Go dig up their stats.

Great, but the coach has grossly underperformed so far.

My thing on the 6 was not how great they were or how great would be; it was how they were dismissed in a week or so, some by zoom, and not given a chance. I would never treat anyone on my team, in my business, or in any organization I was associated with, like that. I guess you would. That's part of why I think you are a loser. I think it's interesting how you would keep supporting something like that, which is literally unprecedented in college basketball. And now, the coach is one and done 2 years in a row. Maybe you should try to learn how to treat people.

Schweyen went one and done every year in the tournament despite their “better” conference record under the final 2 seasons (maybe they won one game and I’m way off, but I’m too lazy to look it up).

If Holsingers team next year doesn’t look better record-wise, defense-wise, turnover-wise and tournament wise, it’d be safe to wonder if it is working out.

I glanced back a few years, and think Shannon won a game in the year, or two, prior to her last year.

I glanced back at another UM coach's last 3 full seasons:

10 and 4. 6 and 2 third in conference

10 and 3. 6 and 2 third in conference

8 and 5. 4 and 4 sixth in conference

Is that a good trend?

And playoffs every year with wins, and 2 finishes at about no. 8 in nation and one at 14 in nation. That's good enough for me. Who doesn't win a game at the Big Sky hoops tourney in 2 years?

The Lady Griz who haven’t won a game in 4 years with 3 different head coaches (same coach the last 2 years).

Also Mouse, this is the basketball board. Bobby’s coaching the football team has nothing to do with Lady Griz / Griz Basketball. I never played the game, but I at least know that. Please stop mucking up the board and stay on topic. Thanks.

That’s a very bold take. I would be VERY surprised if he quit after the season!
