#5 Lady Griz v. #4 Eastern Washington Quarterifnals BSC Tournament

Lady Griz can't stop Loera. She has 22, 6 RB's, 5 steals and 5 assists.

Have several opportunities to tie the game at 51, but then promptly outscored 6-0 to end the quarter on again possessions that ended with turnovers. Turned the ball over 3 times (two on unforced passes) in the last two minutes.

LG down 57-49 heading in to the 4th quarter.

Game is slipping away from the LG.

EWU getting all the calls, making all the baskets, LG starting to miss shots.

LG just aren't that good defensively, especially at the pace they are playing to get consistent stops.

Defense is a matter of wanting to play defense. I don’t see us wanting to play defense at all. IMO we need a defensive minded coach on our staff that can sell the desire to play defense to the players.

I see it a little differently, as I don't think they have no desire, I see them making some poor scheme decisions.

Poor clock management as well, I'd say

Different year, same story in the conference tournament. Struggling with turnovers, scoring consistently and defense = another 1 and done. Better luck next year I suppose.

Basketball for both men and women is far behind football before returning to winning traditions. Holdinger is continually outcoached and DeCuire, based on his interview is burned out

Philosophically it is what it is. They've struggled all year with scoring PG's and that was true again today. I think it is inexperience mostly, because whether it is Konig or Stump defending on the perimeter, they make some tactical decisions that are indicative of being freshmen. They really missed a player like Stiles this year.

Konig and Stump will only get better.

The LG are going to be 0 for forever in Boise, and today outside of the 2nd quarter was easily the best game they played in a hot minute in the BSC tournament.

just way too many turnovers when it mattered and missed a boat load of shots at the rim.

Tough way to go out.

That's not at all what I took away from the article. If he were burned out he would hang it up after this season, I don't believe Decuire's going to hang it up anytime soon. What I took it to mean was more along the lines of he thought he could coach until he was dead, now retirement doesn't sound too bad. Nowhere in there did it say anything about him questioning his immediate future. He's done a great job of turning the season around and I believe this team has what it takes to contend for the title.

As far as Holsinger, he's done a great job recruiting and building a culture. He gets basically everybody back except for Fatkin and this is a relatively young team led by the Freshmen of the year in Mack Konig. The next step to get the Lady Griz over the hump is to be more consistent. There were times this year where they looked great and like they could win the title, and other times where it was like how the hell did they lose to them? I definitely don't think Holsinger did them any favors with that brutal non-conference schedule, I'd lighten that up a little bit next year. I think they will be one of the favorites to win it next year though as a ton of the top players in the conference graduate. Next season should be a fun one for the Lady Griz.

Agree. I'm still fully on the LG bandwagon. Konig is gonna be a major star. But I think they need a bigger post presence--always the hardest position to recruit at the mid-major level. While it's still true that the three-point shot has changed basketball (and by the way, have you seen Caitlan Clark from Iowa shoot from deep?), it still requires a post presence to open up those three point bombs. Just as happened with the men, women are getting bigger and more skilled, and we've got to go find them.

Oh, and one postscript. One of our most consistent offensive threats this year was Libby Stump. But unhappily, she hit a slump at just the wrong time. I'm sure she'll be more consistent next year.

Not to mention back to back #1 recruiting classes in the Big Sky with the class he has coming in. They’re on the up and up. Shannon set them back decades. Holsinger getting them back to competing and being legit soon.

Yup, this was a tuff loss and end to the season but this team has had to go through a serious rebuild, not just personnel wise but culturally too. Next year should definitely be a better year and at least challenging for a con championship if Holsinger is really the guy for the job, which I definitely still believe he is.

Enjoyed watching the LG this season. Tough loss in Boise again. I think they’ll be better next season and will finally break through with a win (hopefully more) at the conference tournament. Ball security-turnovers have seemed to be an issue for many seasons. Many of the turnovers just seem to be unforced. Cut down on turnovers, work on getting tougher on defense and finishing layups (use the square on the backboard please) more consistently. Will miss Sammy and Gina next season but the young players coming back and Carmen will be tough to beat i think. Dani Bartsch is a force on the boards!

Hopefully, the men will do better than the women. 2-5 to end season. Another one and done. What's with that? A supposedly good coach with supposedly good recruiting, can't do better than this?

14-16 and 10-8 in conference. 19-11 and 12-8 last year. Isn't this going backwards?

Petrino - 12-11 and 9-8.

Shannon - 17-13 and 12-8.

I'm glad most of you are excited about the young players, but where are the results?

I agree. As a coach this falls on him. He can’t devise a defense? The TO’s are insane. Just the type they are is bad. I don’t see much improvement from year one to year two. And he had 3 veterans on this team.
