$45m research grant to UM

Great news for UM! Maybe now the football program can keep more of its $ to better facilities and not be used for other projects on campus! I would assume some of the 45 million grant can be used for some UM campus upgrades? Not sure how that all works.

Alot of alums and people don't get excited about UM's over-emphasis of environmental and climate change things. I know for a fact that that has cost, and continues to cost, UM alot of money.

You're probably right; UM should be cranking out more lawyers; there is such a shortage.

I'm not naive as to political corruption. I'm just not ready to jump on a ignorant conspiracy theory involving (you tell me how) the Army Corps laundering a political payoff for the DOJ or is it the Department of education? Either way, can you bozos give me any kind of link between these entities? Just as ignorant, the idea that climate change is the focus of the funding. If anyone looks into it they will see that primarily it's about research into waterways and environments affected by Army Corps projects. I'm sure some $ will spin off into related projects and topics-prolly not a new weight room though. Also, in terms of the "move up" crowd, UM needs to meet certain academic offerings in order to belong to certain FCS conferences. This kind of grant is a big step in the right direction.

Those research grants net a great return on investment. Our economy would be the shits without university research. It's great for the University that they can compete for those dollars

Really? Last time I checked UM has belonged to an FCS conference for over 35 years. I doubt their academic offerings without the grant would cause expellation. Especially when benchmarked against institutions like SUU.
