$45m research grant to UM

Great news for UM! Maybe now the football program can keep more of its $ to better facilities and not be used for other projects on campus! I would assume some of the 45 million grant can be used for some UM campus upgrades? Not sure how that all works.

Yeah, but moving on to the comments of several perceptive Missoulian readers...iIf the results don't match the expectations of the environmentalist community this'll be the last major science award UM will be seeing as long as the climate change crowd prevails...

Great news for the U! Nice attempt by some to make this into a climate change debate, I thought we all agreed that the world's problems can all be blamed on President Obama being half black.

Now let's hear from the trolls that claim UM is nothing but a liberal arts college. No science; no research......

Alot of alums and people don't get excited about UM's over-emphasis of environmental and climate change things. I know for a fact that that has cost, and continues to cost, UM alot of money.
You're probably right; UM should be cranking out more lawyers; there is such a shortage.

Yes, it's the same proof as the climate change radicals have..................

Then again, it could just be a minor "thank you" for bending over and taking it up the tailpipe and becoming the poster boy in the college sexual assault scandals and the larger war against women. Payment for RE being a good little soldier in the cause.

I know, lets do it like the left always does, make your conclusions, then scrape together some BS evidence which will make the Corps happy, then take the rest of the $45 million($44,999,000) and put it into Griz football, move to the MWC without the f***ing Cats, and live happily everafter.

Yeah...right. I'll buy into that when the Feds give $250 million to Penn State to study if polar bears can really swim...

Two different things, Tip. One is a simple serial molester, the other a war against women. You figure the votes.

ButtGrizzle - You are suggesting that this kind of thing doesn't happen in government? How little you know... Everyone else is corrupt but politicians are pure as the driven snow (something that climatologists will undoubtedly spend some of that $45M to prove).

I'm not naive as to political corruption. I'm just not ready to jump on a ignorant conspiracy theory involving (you tell me how) the Army Corps laundering a political payoff for the DOJ or is it the Department of education? Either way, can you bozos give me any kind of link between these entities? Just as ignorant, the idea that climate change is the focus of the funding. If anyone looks into it they will see that primarily it's about research into waterways and environments affected by Army Corps projects. I'm sure some $ will spin off into related projects and topics-prolly not a new weight room though. Also, in terms of the "move up" crowd, UM needs to meet certain academic offerings in order to belong to certain FCS conferences. This kind of grant is a big step in the right direction.

And Ric Hauer, who will be the lead investigator on this grant, is amazing. Can't think of a better individual to be doing this.

Those research grants net a great return on investment. Our economy would be the shits without university research. It's great for the University that they can compete for those dollars

There isn't a better use of tax dollars.
Yep!

Good post.
Really? Last time I checked UM has belonged to an FCS conference for over 35 years. I doubt their academic offerings without the grant would cause expellation. Especially when benchmarked against institutions like SUU.
