#37

Patrick deserves it but Robbie will get it unless Lewis wants to give it to him. Learfeild and administration will use it as a marketing campaign. If you haven't noticed everything is about marketing these days, and having it go to a family member of the OG 37. No chance it doesn't happen.

The current #37 decides who the next #37 is. If Jace's decision is overruled for whatever reason, especially for the sake of marketing, then end the tradition right now.

So you're saying you wouldn't be in favor of The Town Pump Food Stores, #37?

F**k just give it to Ted Nugent, he's a Montanan. And this doesn't end there, the "fight on" trying to be fostered off on us is not a tradition here as well, changing the spirit of #37 would continue the decline of tradition and you don't get that back.

Lol the spirit. I would say someone being born and growing up wanting to play for the program is more of a badge to the legacy number than playing HS ball in Montana. Robby is as big of a Montana guy as you’ll find. Idk maybe I’m crazy but I see him as just as big part of the legacy of Montana as any other kid on the roster. I wouldn’t mind if it went to someone else. We obviously have a few good options

hauck went to nau, and then used his dad being coach as an exemption to the former 'must sit a year' transfer rule. he's amazing against the run, no doubt, one of the best the griz have had in that respect. my personal opinion, though, is that i don't want to consistently see #37 in a futile chase after a wide receiver who is going to score a touchdown by beating him. i also would cringe to see #37 repeatedly tossing himself on a pile that includes a guy who was already tackled, in order to get an 'assist' in his stats. but that's just like, my opinion, man.

That would be changing the rule that's been employed consistently in the past, for no good reason. It might be different if RH was the best player, but he isn't that either. JL will pick his wingman, O'Connell and all will be right with the world.

Ya, that news sucks. Hasn't transferred yet or has he?

I have never seen a player enter the portal and still be on the team...so I doubt he will be the first.

A player can enter the portal and still return to their team if the coach receives them back. Auburn just had a RB enter and then a coach talk him back into staying. I would think Hauck might make an exception here but normally I’d think if you enter the portal on Bobby’s team, you’re as good as gone. Not that any of that matters cus he literally won FCS punter of the year, entered the portal, and received his first offer from Nebraska in a matter of hours. I’d expect more offers and zero chance he returns.

I think there will be some pressure for It to be Robby Hauck. It will likely be between Robby and Patrick.
We've been over this 100 times. Hauck did not play HS football in Montana. End of discussion, please.

O'Connell is the leader the team will look to next year. #37 for sure.

I can’t believe we’ve been over this 1000 times and we STILL think there’s a permanent set of rules for the selection. “Hails” from Montana is the ONLY stipulation. Not sure how that continually gets confused with high school but they’re not the same. That being said, I’d be happy with Robbie, Patrick, or Braxton. Garret’s a maybe but only after Patrick and Robbie graduate next year. I’d think Mitch might be a cool selection too but I don’t think he quite had a big enough year to take it back from the defense. Junior would be interesting too but maybe not until his Jr year, if O’Connell or Robbie get it this year. Seeing 37 back there PR would be pretty neat.

Meant to say he entered the transfer portal. Has not yet transferred but has gotten an offer from Nebraska.

So you're suggesting Toure may have been on a recruiting mission?
Now that Buschini has committed to Nebraska I would say that's a possibility.

If Robby Hauck, who was not born in Montana, or played HS football in Montana gets it, the tradition is over. Robby should not be a candidate period. Bobby should not allow it.

He won't in spite of not personally being in favor of the #37 gig.

I am all for Bergen and having him wear it for three years.

Absolutely should be the pick. No question. Now someone will ask if he was born here, wonder why.
I would be absolutely thrilled to see Bergen as #37.

I’ve said it before, but if you weren’t conceived in Montany then you gots no business getting any number, let alone #37. Thems just the got damned facts.

I know how it's supposed to go but as with everything good/cool in life some asshole marketer fucks it up. I can 100% see the University and ad partners messing this up as a marketing gimmick.

Seasons been over for seven days now. Where is the announcement? Yes, I'm into instant gratification.

Are you saying Montana should only recruit in-state players?

Better tell NDSU, who just signed 24/31 in their class from out of state. :thumb:

Wasn’t being serious. Sorry if it wasn’t clear.
