See I knew someone would get upset. Although, I don't think you quite got my point. I could don't care if people outside the program are offended like some maybe by Chief Oceola at FSU I'm saying specifically giving montana born players
A precieved higher status than out of state players is stupid because inevitably it will piss off part of your team and can be looked at as a negative by out of state recruits. Here is a news flash for you montana has some good players to recruit but not enough of them. Now I'd favor them keeping 37 but changing the criteria possibly

I am not upset at all.

It does baffle me when people or younger people want to get rid of tradition. Its what builds programs and historically keeps them relevant. When people think of football in Montana they think of the Griz or Carroll college. When people think of the Griz they think of #37 or 15. Why would you ever mess with a perfect marketing tool and selling point?

You can have your opinion everyone should be able to voice theirs and not be attacked by the woke mob. Personally I enjoyed hearing your side of this even though I disagree
When people think of Griz football I hope the think of more than 37 and 15. You can have your opion and that's fine. I just don't feel making a big deal of where a player is from makes any sense. If they play at Montana then they should be considered Montana players no matter what highschool they went to or where they where born.

Its no different than being born in Montana and being a native.

If you move to Montana from somewhere else you are not a Montanan to the natives no matter how long you have lived in our state. I didn't make the rules, its just the way it is.

My point is why should any of that matter on a football team? If the player chose to play for Montana he should be treated exactly the same as a native born montanan. There shouldn't be Special treatment for a kid just because he happened to be born in Montana.

Here is a twist, why not Buschini or Bergen?
I think that would be a great idea actually. It started off with a offensive player so I think a Bergen would be a good choice. Buschini maybe the most valuable player on the team and is the top punter in fcs so he is definitely deserving of it too.

only way O'Connell does not wear it is if he turns it down. One very cool thing is we have a lot of Montana born kids who played HS football in Montana next year who would do the tradition proud.

Says “hails” from Montana. I think RH would qualify with his roots and living here as a kid even if he was born in Washington and played ha school in Cali. It’s up to the player to pass it on right?

I think there will be some pressure for It to be Robby Hauck. It will likely be between Robby and Patrick.
We've been over this 100 times. Hauck did not play HS football in Montana. End of discussion, please.

O'Connell is the leader the team will look to next year. #37 for sure.

Kem, I don't disagree with you. I just know Jesse wanted to pass #37 to Jace and it wasn't as simple as that.

Be shocked; he does not qualify.

When all your teammates say…there’s nobody more Montanan on the team than Robby….i think they think he qualifies and nobody is going to stop Lewis from giving it to him if Lewis chooses him. You act like what you say matters but the coach considers Robby from Montana and the team does too. Your “must play HS in Montana” doesn’t mean anything. There is no list of rules for this. It is unwritten and changes based on situation.

F**k just give it to Ted Nugent, he's a Montanan. And this doesn't end there, the "fight on" trying to be fostered off on us is not a tradition here as well, changing the spirit of #37 would continue the decline of tradition and you don't get that back.

Patrick deserves it but Robbie will get it unless Lewis wants to give it to him. Learfeild and administration will use it as a marketing campaign. If you haven't noticed everything is about marketing these days, and having it go to a family member of the OG 37. No chance it doesn't happen.

Lol the spirit. I would say someone being born and growing up wanting to play for the program is more of a badge to the legacy number than playing HS ball in Montana. Robby is as big of a Montana guy as you’ll find. Idk maybe I’m crazy but I see him as just as big part of the legacy of Montana as any other kid on the roster. I wouldn’t mind if it went to someone else. We obviously have a few good options

Well, it would be a bit weird to give it to Buschini now that he has transferred.

Ya, that news sucks. Hasn't transferred yet or has he?

I have never seen a player enter the portal and still be on the team...so I doubt he will be the first.

Meant to say he entered the transfer portal. Has not yet transferred but has gotten an offer from Nebrasksa.

The current #37 decides who the next #37 is. If Jace's decision is overruled for whatever reason, especially for the sake of marketing, then end the tradition right now.
