It was posted on twitter by Ms. Haake..

Seems like kind of a bullshit move by Haake.

How do you not go with "hack move" right there? Ugh!

Legit question. It certainly occurred to me but in the end, it just felt too easy. Being fvcking classy is both a blessing and a curse.

BTW, the Missoulian reports that the girl who picked up our wayward football players is the only one to fight charges of criminal trespass. Does that mean that the rest plead no contest or guilty?

All 3 #Griz football players and the UM student accused of trespassing on Halloween pleaded guilty. The designated driver denied the charge.
Interesting that this is the first mention of what I suspected three days ago. Courtney Reep was a designated driver. I imagine they pleaded guilty with a plea bargain, most likely fine and deferred imposition with eventual dismissal, which is entirely appropriate.

After the sensational news and coverage of 3 Griz players arrested for felony burglary, the Missoulian probably lost interest. Darn, only a little misdemeanor. They would have played up a misdemeanor too originally, but now this is a total letdown to them. And, when the Kaimin scooped them on the owner interview, they probably are leaving with the tails between their legs.

Instead of directing all the venom at the players, perhaps some could be directed towards the initial over-charging and the Missoulian. This is like Kemp/Tru and JJ. Deja vu all over again. While the players were stupid, and should know that they need to be extra careful, most of the big and bad press resulted from the police over-charging and the Missoulian. I just don't understand why some people can't see that others besides the players caused much of the bad press, etc. Sure, with no dumb player mistakes, there would be no issue or bad press. However, with no police over-charging and no Missoulian, things would have been very different. I think blame ought to be spread around to the various parties.

What is wrong with the Missoula police and this asst county attorney? Reeps was the designated driver who was in her pajamas. Her dad is a prominent litigator in town. She/they paid a non-refundable $5,000 to bail her out. She is a nursing student with a 3.5 or so average. The texts show that she was the DD, had been contacted earlier, and had gotten out of bed to get her friends who had been drinking. The lawyers representing her have stated they will resolve the criminal matter first, "before deciding whether to file a civil lawsuit". This looks like it may end costing the city some money. At least, the $5,000 she paid. Why wouldn't they drop all charges against her--because she doesn't deserve to be charged, her dad is a litigator, and to avoid having a civil case filed against them. The police and this prosecutor need to stop wasting our tax dollars--as well as the funds of citizen's like this. This is almost unbelievable to me. Talk about bad judgment by the prosecutor. I predict that her charge will be dropped promptly.

So much better; no one got tased.

Makes no sense to arrest her in the first place let alone after 3 days of reflection to charge her with a crime.
I am delighted to see her father is an attorney. I hope he takes the county attorney to the wood shed.
Utter stupidity, I hope this story stays in the news and we follow her case with the furvor it deserves.

Why don't you anti-Griz "Griz fans" who wanted to kick these players off the team without even knowing what happened that night tell us how you feel about this outcome?

By the way I think the beer in question (if it can be located) should be auctioned off at the beginning of the 3rd quarter of the next home game so the hypocrite anti-Griz "Griz fans" who prefer to drink beer than watch football could bid on the beer. Then the proceeds of said auction could be used to partially reimburse the players for their bail bond expenses.

Trespassing, theft (apparently not charged for some reason), not my kind of Griz player. After a loss wanting to be out at that time of night needing a designated driver is also a sign to me they don't want to give 100% to the team. Drinking alcohol to that point is not good for optimal athletic performance but then again maybe I would be more willing to put off the partying until after the season than them....I know alcohol consumption is legal for their age and have zero problem with it in moderation OUT OF SEASON. But when so much is at stake the next few weeks it was damn selfish. Let's say a one game suspension.....let's say Lebsock starts. Now there is a player who gave a career of hardwork and staying out of jail to get two starts...only because two others got arrested bringing bad Griz behavior to the front page.

She has hallowed shoes to fill, golden footsteps to follow, a platinum standard to uphold . . .

Thanks 75, I had forgotten. :thumb:

And possibly, a prized Pulitzer to pursue . . .

Hmm

MsMaroon replies to "her" own post and thanks "75."

Did you forget to switch names, 75? :o

Are you daft? I added to my post, giving 75 credit for the reminder about the Pulitzer. Do you read or just start typing? Have another straw to grasp.

MPD needs to be investigated like UM was investigated. This whole incident should have been avoided by the officers on the scene, if they had used one ounce of common sense. They need a new line of work.

Sounds like the young ladies attorney or dad, (who I THINK is an attorney as well?) is hinting at a civil suit but likely just a move to get prosecutor to drop ALL charges.

Here is the deal though Statler, thanks to the local media the MPD isn't allowed to "let things slide" when it comes to U of M football players. Similar to Gamboa. Many officers in many jurisdictions would likely spend some time getting everyone's side of the story and quite possibly send everyone home and tell them to stay home.

That's not an option here. Imagine the headlines if word leaked out an officer let a football player off after they committed ANY kind of crime. The officers name would be drug through the mud along with everyone else involved. Put yourself in their shoes......I'm not saying this is the case here or in some other instances but it very well could be.

I have been asked to go home and stay there a few times in my life, been asked (by the law) to leave a bar and not come back or have contact with someone I had a "disagreement" with and even been given a ride home by officers on more than one occasion without an arrest, citation or ticket.

Then again I am not a Montana Grizzly football player.

It's probably a good idea to have someone closely related to an attorney be at the beck and call of any Griz player out after 2am.

Smart move

There is no way the MPD could just let these guys go home after receiving that 911 call. But to charge them with felony burglary seems excessive. And putting bond at $50,000 is crazy. Just imagine how much beer they could bought for what this is gonna cost them.

The post by signbewildered is spot on, the arrest was a mess with blatant over reaction that could have cleared up in 15 minutes.

Ursus, before Saturday night, KVA had never been in trouble a day in his life. Not one day. For crying out loud, the kid's mom is a correctional officer! To use him to suggest that Lebsock somehow got screwed out of playing time all these years is just as stupid as what the three Griz players did. I think Lebsock is a great kid, comes from a great football family, and is a fine football player. But in no way should he have ever started ahead of KVA head-to-head. And it's not even remotely close.

Oh by the way, it was the non-football student who was charged with stealing the case of beer. Yeah, yeah, Schmaing, Counts and KVA should have done their part and told him not to do it. No question there. But, they didn't and I don't think them not telling him to steal the beer deserves a life sentence.

For those who want to dismiss it as no big deal, why don't you go on the missoulIan site and listen to KVA apologize. He gets it and you don! I am glad the JP made them listen to the 911 call....and I do hear real remorse from KVA. Admitting fault, the seriousness of it all and taking responsibility tells a lot. Hopefully other players (current and future) will learn from this. I suggest so of his community service be addressing them and high school kids abut it. Make some positive out of a negative.

Also, Mods, how in the sam hell is Northwestfresh still a poster on this board?? Seriously, how can he continue to post this fabricated NCAA rules violation stuff and be allowed to stay? I just don't get it.

I actually saw an interview with a gentlemen who was an associate athletic director for community relations at the University of Texas whos primary responsibility was to be the first guy Austin police call when they have any issue with UT football players. He said his goal was to meet with every officer on the Austin PD and make sure they had his card and knew they could call him 'anytime'. Times have changed.

Never said he should have started in front of KVA, just pointing out there are hardworking kids who are following the law on the team so it does not have to be the way the team culture is (leaders should lead and keep others on the team in line)

This is the epitome of how stupid this all is. A great message to send to young people. "Designated driver? We'll arrest you too." A laudable effort to avoid drinking and driving, an unmarked construction site thought to be abandoned, and $25,000 in costs later (before attorney fees), headlines, controversy, and demands to "PUNISH!!!"

It is beyond stupid. This is a classic police over-reaction, brought home from Chicago and places like that to Missoula, Montana. This is the natural result of the social justice crowd's demands for "accountability" -- naturally, not for them, just for select social or racial groups -- which inevitably end up backfiring. This is exactly how this crap gets blown way out of proportion, does more harm than good, and as the first seven pages of this thread demonstrates conclusively, brings out every bigot in sight to attend the "lynchin'," only later apologizing, "gosh, we didn't mean to lynch that one, we only meant to lynch these ones over here, well too bad."
