Just received charging docs for the 3 #Griz players and #UM students arrested Sun. Prosecutors are charging all 5 w/ misdemeanor trespass.

Which the MPD should have done with a Notice to Appear, a ticket. I hope the five sue the shit out of anyone even remotely involved in this travesty. They are out a lot of money due to incompetence. They system is out of whack.

Yes, they should have.

But if they had, there's enough Griz haters here that a thread would have pooped up and reached 30 pages contending they should have been charged with burglary.

Will they get some of the bail money back? I believe if a family member posted the bond of $50,000 and they show up to all their court dates they will get most of it back (minus fees). But if they had to hire a bondsman then they won't get $5000 back? Or because it was dropped to a misdemeanor they will get it all back (minus fees)????

I'm sure these guys are over 21. Why in the hell would they steal beer?

why does anyone steal anything.......they don't want to pay for it and have low morals

only property disturbed: beer taken from garage.......hmmmmm

I am glad to know that taking beer does not qualify as theft...

not if you are a football player at least, I bet if you take can from Safeway you will get charged.

I was debating between "crime of opportunity" or "crime of passion".....

The investigation that follows is critical to showing whether the suspects intended to steal anything (the most common thing that happens in burglary.) Obviously, if they were in possession of items from the house, the question is pretty much answered. Other indications might be moving items into an area where they can be removed from the house, i.e. near the ladder.

Court docs: Griz players+friends face misdemeanors, not felonies. Believed home was empty, only property disturbed: beer taken from garage.
They are lucky the homeowner drinks crap beer.

Big Sky Rye Pale Ale = felony

Busch Light = misdemeanor

Talked with someone with lengthy experience with bail bondsmen, my brother. Says it is more like $6,000 to get your "Get Out Of Jail FREE" card. Doubt they get anything back, it is a service the accused purchase. They take the risk, you pay them money, you get to leave.

Assuming Joshua is correct on the facts, understand this is the fallout from the Karma trial. Kid in garage to steal beer is only trespassing, not committing burglary. City boxed itself in on this type of event for all time.

I thought they were above the garage, not in it. So confused.

Apparently they went exploring.....

Should be fun to see how the "code is applied. Is it one class II, One class II and a Class I or Several class II? as its several charges? Will they be out One game or 3?

Thou shalt not steal.....but feel free to trespass and drink their beer. Damn I am proud to have them wear a jersey with my alma mater's name on it. Stitt happens

Ursus 1 we get it. You think these guys are hardened criminals but please give it a rest.

Now how long before the Athletic Dept decides what to do with it?
