The property owner said "nothing was taken." What he told the Kaimin and what he told the police may have been two different stories, but how would you charge 5 people with taking a single cold pack?

I suppose the State should spend a few thousand dollars trying to figure that out too.

Well anyway they have been charged with misdemeanor trespass. That's a fact.... Now the university will have to deal with this and put it to bed. The sooner the better.

Actually it is mandatory 10% of scheduled contests for the first offense.......

They arrested on the scene unless the cops popped one with them or let them take it with them to drink in jail it would not have drunk or taken.

It isn't just that UM athletes are held to higher standards, there is a point where they are held to ridiculous standards. They are supposed to return from disappointing games, go home, and knit. If this was anything other than in a media and a social justice community that has made careers out of persecuting UM athletes, this would have been treated to what it should have been; a lecture by a police officer and send home.

Instead, it has received more "news coverage" than most actual "news." And the students are collectively out $25,000 they can't get back; a great night to be a bail bondsman. You almost have to wonder why the police overcharged this so substantially. There appears to be big money in it. A little tough to make tuition or pay rent.

As for "embarrassing the University," given the role in promoting this Bullcrap by its president initially, "embarrassing the University" long ago became a badge of administrative distinction, not a smear.
