Alright I do this every year and it's time to bring it back! Predicting every Big Sky teams regular season starting first with the Griz and then going in alphabetical order after that. We all know what our offseason has been like, so let's just dive in!
August 29 vs. Southern Utah - W. What a way to welcome the T-Birds back to the Big Sky by making them come to Wa-Griz! They've been a bubble team each of the last 2 seasons but I think they could be down a little bit this year with their return to the BSC and a new QB. Griz win handily!
September 5 vs. Drake - W. The back-to-back-to-back PFL champs have been to the playoffs 3 straight years. They've become the dominant force in the Pioneer League. We have not faced them since 2018. Despite their success in the PFL, they have not fared well against the top dogs in the FCS. Griz will have this over in the first half.
September 12 vs. Utah Tech - W. The other Big Sky newcomer, but this is a non-conference game as the Big Sky was nice enough to allow us to keep this game on the schedule since it was scheduled before they returned to the BSC. The Trailblazers have been terrible though. Griz win big!
September 19 @ Oregon State - L. Our first FBS game since 21. The Beavers were really bad last year. If we were playing last years OSU team, then I'd say for sure we're gonna win this game. I can't imagine they're gonna be that bad again are they? They may not be good, but I would be surprised if they went 1-11 again. I want to believe that we can win this game, but I just don't know enough about what OSU has roster wise this year. For now, I'm gonna play it safe and say they're much improved and we drop a close game. I hope I'm wrong though.
September 26 @ UC Davis - W. Davis is gonna have a good team this year. Especially since the news that the Conners brothers (Rex and Porter) received an additional year of eligibility. It'll make their D that much tougher. They did lose their QB Caden Pinnick, but they brought in a Minnesota transfer that they really like. We have played really well in our last 2 trips to Davis, and will need to play really well again. If we anna be title contenders though, then we gotta win this game. Cant go 0-2 on this road trip.
October 3 vs. Northern Colorado - W. The Bears have continued to improve under Ed Lamb, but they still have a ways to go. No problem in this one.
October 10 @ Northern Arizona - W. We all know what happened the last time we went to Flagstaff. Ty Pennington does return at QB for NAU, but beyond that they've lost a lot of pieces on both sides of the ball. I don't have high expectations for NAU this year and I think we will win this game comfortably.
October 17 vs. Idaho - W. Talk about an abysmal year for the Vandys last year. I'm not sure I'm a Thomas Ford believer. I think Idaho will be ok this year, but nothing special. I'm not sure I'd even project them as a playoff team right now. Griz retain the Stein again!
October 24 BYE. Holy crap we actually have a bye week this year. What a concept!
October 31 @ Eastern Washington - W. Games are always tricky on the red rug. We finally exorcised the demons two years ago and won in Cheney. This game is gonna mean a lot to the Eags as we're their rival and we poached 3 of their coaches this offseason. They're gonna be out for blood in this one. Plus Jake Schakel kinda scares me. I think we will win, but it'll be closer then we'd all like.
November 7 vs. Portland State - W. I'll miss seeing Barney on the sidelines this year, but a coaching change was badly needed for the Viks. I like the hire of Chris Fisk and I think eventually he will make them respectable. Does Jackson Pressley start at QB for them this year? Griz win big!
November 14 vs. Idaho State - W. I'm really glad this game is in Wa-Griz and not in Poky. I'm actually high on ISU this year and I think they're gonna make the playoffs. Jordan Cooke is a dog and they got a lot of weapons surrounding him. Their offense will be lethal. How good will they be on D? We'll find out. I think the Griz win by about 10 or so.
November 21 @ Montana State. I never predict this game being that I'm superstitious, but being that it's in Bozeman and we haven't won there in a decade, you can probably tell how I'm feeling about this game.
--------------------------------------
I've got us going 11-1 or 10-2. Realistically with the weapons we have on offense, we shouldn't be any worse than 10-2, and if we are then I think it's fair to question whether BK is the right man for the job. That may be harsh for some of you to hear but what's the expectation? This is a big year for the Griz and a chance to hit the reset button a little bit, so let's not mess this up. That's my prediction. Thoughts???
