It took Sawyer long time to get healthy. We took a gamble on that kid, stuck with him when it wasn't clear he'd ever be a reliable contributor.Damn, that is a huge bummer.
Well, he transferred to UM from the University of Washington, so not much of a gamble. And it looks like he already finished his degree, so maybe he just wants to attend grad school somewhere else. Nothing wrong with that. I hope he has a great season wherever he ends up.It took Sawyer long time to get healthy. Maybe he still wasn't sturdy enough to build a season around.
Agreed. Best wishes to him. I don't think we lost the next toureWell, he transferred to UM from the University of Washington, so not much of a gamble. The answer is No. As for Toure, he was most likely drafted because he did go to Nebraska and didn't stay. Toure is no Kupp.Wilson's pro prospects higher @ Arizona ?
Call me Big Sky biased, but will Wilson go higher than Shi##y Kitty Troy Anderson in 2022's second round ? Somehow, the NFL scouts found Troy in Boz Angeles !!!
I think Toure' claimed something similar when he transferred to Nebraska, yet Cooper Kupp stayed put @ Eastern and got drafted by the Rams in the 3rd round vs. Toure's 6th and has arguably had an NFL career at least a smidge better than Toure' s !!!
I am sure Riley will get more NIL money in Arizona His transfer to Arizona makes me appreciate Alex Gubner, Jr. Bergman, and Eli Gilman that much more for staying at UM !!!
I think the fallacy you're making here is using two of the greatest athletes the conference has ever seen and implying that their draft stock would not have improved if either had gone to an FBS program. It's very arguable that both their draft stock would've improved had they gone to a bigger program like Toure did (especially if Kupp dominated at, say, an SEC or Big10 team just like he did when he entered the league). You're pretty quick, Helena--if a kid has the talent, he will get NFL attention, even in the " lowly" Big Sky Conference, just like Cooper Kupp and Troy Anderson-- he does NOT have to transfer !!!
And you're right, Toure', the 7th round pick out of Nebraska, is currently picking splinters out of his butt on the practice squad of a really bad, last-place Chicago Bear's squad while Cooper Kupp, the Rams 3rd round pick out of lowly Eastern Washington of the lowly Big Sky Conference, an All-Pro WR and former Super Bowl MVP, is still catching passes for NFC West contender The LA Rams !!!
I wish the absolute best for Toure' and hope his NFL career really takes off. My only point is as Troy Anderson and Cooper Kupp and many other Big Sky NFL players have proved over and over again, a Big Sky student athlete with NFL talent doesn't have to transfer out of his Big Sky team to get noticed by NFL teams !!!
I mean, I'd argue Kupp and Andersen very easily could've gone higher if they had gone to a bigger school, Kupp especially. If he puts up EWU numbers at Oregon, he's almost certainly a 1st round pick. Your 4.6 comment I think goes to show you don't know how good Cooper actually was/is. He would've been the #1 receiver on almost every FBS team. Gragg played in a completely different era, so I don't think he's worth talking about. No, the counter argument against yours is more valid and not a fallacy, and moreover, it appropriately doesn't denigrate the Big Sky Conference. Would Kupp have gone higher than the third round, playing @ Oregon, Washington or UCLA ? Very doubtful !!! Would Scott Gragg have gone higher than the second round if instead of playing for Don Read and the GRIZ he had stayed home and played for Oregon or Oregon State ? Would Troy Anderson have gone higher than the second round @ Iowa or Wisconsin ?
The fallacy of yourr argument is
1. They were already high-round draft picks.
2. The only way they could go higher is first- round draft picks for Scott and Troy and a second or first-round pick for Cooper, in other words, they couldn't have gone much higher if at all in the draft even if they had played in the old PAC-10 or 12, The Big 10, or the SEC and there is a decent chance they would have been buried on the depth chart, not got noticed, snd either drafted in a lower round or not drafted at all. Copper, for example, runs great routes and has very strong hands. He also runs a 4.6 40. Does a 4.6 even get him on the field as a starting WR @ Ohio State, Georgia or.Oregon ? ( Sorry for the rhetorical question: The correct answer is " No ! " )
It's hard to get noticed at Thee Ohio State University, Georgia, Penn State, Texas or Oregon if you're sitting on the bench, not playing !!! But even if they had started at any of those schools, since Cooper, Troy and Scott were already high-round draft picks, they could have gone--best case scenario-- in the same round or very marginally higher !!!
So the measuring stick for Cam is NFL hall of famer (and Joe Flacco lol)?So is Scattebo Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Steve McNair or Joe Flacco ? ....
Yeah, didn't think so !!!
And you know that Cooper would have started at Oregon even though he only runs a 4.6, a slow 40 time for starting Power 5 WR's, how ? Magic 8 ball ? Tarot cards? Wild- eye speculation ?
And you can say unequivocally that a kid like Hayden Harris, buried on the depth chart at UCLA, didn't improve his NFL prospects by transferring to UM, where he started, led the team in sacks, and started to draw at least some NFL attention to himself which he didn't do during his UCLA tenure? According to your reasoning, he should have just stayed @ UCLA ? Doesn't Hayden Harris' experience contradict your argument about players on the bench @ FBS schools not drawing any NFL attention to themselves after transferring to an FCS school and actually seeing the field as starters and putting up some impressive numbers even while playing in an unorthodox, not very productive 3-3-5 defense ?
And Cooper Kupp's Eastern teams and Troy Anderson's MSU teams were a wee bit more successful than Xavier's Idaho State teams, No ? ( And since Cooper and Troy are playing in The NFL and Xavier has yet to take a snap in The NFL, at least in 2024 and until Xavier is drafted, makes the cut, and is starting in The NFL, we are talking applesand oranges, No ? )
It must be nice to be omniscient !!! I am just a mere humble mortal !!! Please DM me the winning numbers for Powerball--I promise, I will split it with you, Oh Omniscient One !!!
Okay, I apologize for being a smart a$$--I respectfully disagree and sincerely wish you a Happy and Healthy 2025 !!! We will have to respectfully agree to disagree on this one !!!
I mean, you're the one who said Oregon, and 2016 Oregon went 4-8 and had a bunch of nobodies at WR. Considering Kupp was an all pro NFL caliber WR, he likely would've been welcomed on that team. I don't follow this weird logic where Kupp, despite running a 4.6 40, is simultaneously one of the best WR to ever come out of the FCS and lit up the NFL, but isn't good enough to hypothetically start for a shitty Oregon team because it helps your argument? I think Kupp would've not just started, but been the #1 receiver at literally every power 5 FBS team save for like maybe 5 teams, and he probably starts at all of them. He was the best WR to come out of the 2016 draft, and it isn't particularly close. And you know that Cooper would have started at Oregon even though he only runs a 4.6, a slow 40 time for starting Power 5 WR's, how ?
