2023 Idaho State Regular Season Predictions

Once again, I’m busy at work tomorrow and have to post this tonight. Let’s all take a breath from all the cat DUI stuff for a minute to talk about how bad ISU is gonna be this year. New head coach Cody Hawkins comes in with a blank slate to try and turn this dumpster fire into a respectable program, and he’ll have his work cut out for him. With that, let’s dive in!

September 2 @ San Diego State - L. These 2 played each other last year and it was not good. Last year they lost 38-7. Will they do better this year? Probably not

September 9 @ Utah State - L. Might be a little better game than SDSU but not much better. Nice short bus trip though. Ags roll in this one

September 16 vs. Northern Iowa - L. Battle of the rainbow seat domes. No idea how they managed to convince UNI to come play them. Maybe a respectable game for a half before UNI puts them away in the 2nd half

September 23 vs. Northern Colorado - L. This might be a hot take, but I think UNC wins this game. I’ll take the experienced head coach in Ed Lamb over the rookie Cody Hawkins. Ed Lamb is gonna make UNC a competitive program at some point, it may not be this year but I do think UNC will have some heart this year. Give me the Bears in a close one

September 30 @ Montana - L. Another bus trip for ISU to get their asses kicked. Homecoming in Missoula. Not gonna end well for the Bengals

October 7 BYE

October 14 vs. Eastern Washington - L. Not much to say about this game other then if Eastern doesn’t win by at least 3 scores, that new AD better start looking for Aaron Best’s replacement

October 21 @ Portland State - L. Close game but I don’t think they get it done

October 28 @ Sacramento State - L. This 4 game stretch to end the season is brutal for ISU. This game should be over in the 1st quarter

November 4 vs. Weber State - L. This might be their best chance to beat Weber in a long time, but it’s still not a good chance. Weber rolls

November 11 vs. UC Davis - L. Oddly enough, ISU’s only win in 2021 was at home against Davis in kind of a shocking result. I would be shocked if they pulled that off again. No way it happens twice, especially when Davis will likely be on the bubble

November 18 @ Idaho - L. Ya this one will be over quick

———————

I have ISU going a whopping 0-11. I’m sure they’re gonna win a game somewhere, but idk if they’re gonna be favored in any of their games. Does this coaching staff use the transfer portal at all? Long ways to go to get out of the gutter. I wish Cody Hawkins the best!

Thoughts????

PS, the cats are next week! ;)

Like your breakdowns and predictions. Thanks for the work and new discussions based around the league. Like you stated I’m sure they won’t go 0 for 11, and in the BSC they will pick up some ridiculous win that nobody saw coming. I’m always good with that as long as it’s not against us.

I expect ISU to be a pass happy program. They don't have the linemen or RBs to grind a game out when needed. With that in mind, they may win a game or two just because the other team's DBs and DEs aren't quite up to the task.

It's true that their program has been down for so long that the hole they dug for themselves will take a while to dig out of. However, I feel they now have the right man to orchestrate the project. Expectations will be low, so any sign of improvement will be welcomed.

Thanks GITD

Man the bsc has some absolutely deplorable programs.
That's true with every conference though. I'm sure ACC fans say the same thing about Boston College, and Big 10 fans say the same thing about Rutgers etc.

I give em 1 win over Portland state. Lose to unco.
They will certainly have a shot against N Colorado, if they are not too beat up from their first three games. Two new coaches with teams who have been on the down side of things for a while. Anything can happen in that game. It's a must watch for me and likewise for any of us who will play one of those programs.

They actually have started renovating Holt Arena and it's looking WAY better with black and orange seats instead of the ugly rainbow. Hopefully they fix the seats on the other side of the Stadium as well but so far so good.

Well, they have a new coaching staff. Their photo's, everyone with black team shirts on, all buttoned up to the neck, reminded me of the Heaven's Gate cult members, all buttoned up just before the arrival of the spaceship.

I'm sure Hawkins wants his shot at head coaching, but Idaho State has chewed up and spit out many before him. I'll quote Spock on this one:
"Having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting.”
It is not logical but often true.” – Spock (Amok Time, Star Trek TOS)Dec 22, 2017
