2016 Schedule-one more opponent?

Would it make sense for teams like: New Mexico, New Mexico State, North Texas, and Idaho with lacking attendance and ticket prices to schedule a home & home game with the Griz?

No.

We've had a really good run of schedules in recent years, and, it was set to continue with the home-and-home with McNeese, but that contract was dissolved. Haslam did well to quickly secure the Northern Iowa deal, but, eventually, we were going to run into a schedule like next year's. It's just the nature of the beast. I will mention again though, the DII game was a last resort. Kent tried his best to secure another FCS home game. It hasn't worked out. And while some fans may not care if the Griz play six home games in an 11-game season, I'm sorry, but the university and the city of Missoula cares very, very much and that's just the way it's going to be.

edit: and yes, poorgriz making fun of the 2016 Griz' schedule is about as ironical as it can get on this board.

You guys play at NAU & EWU next year in conference, those games will test you. Add in your game at UNI and thats three really tough games right there. Cal Poly will probably be improved as well. If I'm Haslam, I'd be looking for another cupcake at home as the Griz don't have the easiest road schedule next year. Sometimes a D2 isn't that bad of a deal.

Look at Easterns schedule to start next year, @Wazzu, @NDSU, UNI....those games are great, but 3 in a row like that to start the year can be absolutely brutal and a playoff killer...

You are absolutely right. I am all about the playoffs. Home games in the playoffs are what I love to see and what we need right now to begin to reestablish ourselves as one of the top FCS programs. Going to the Fargodome in round 2 is a recipe for disaster, most of the time. We need playoff games right here in Grizville and if it takes some home cupcakes to rest up our starters, give PT to backups, and add an easy W to our resume, then we should do it.

For example,PSU game was cool wet ugly FB weather. Perfect for PSU that lives in that crap, but a real difficult situation for Griz that seldom see that weather during the fall. We want home games for the playoffs that are freezing ass cold and see if some of those southern teams and domeheads can play in it. Especially with our crowd. If it takes some blowouts during the regular season to set us up with a seeding for the playoffs - I'm willing to try it.

None of the FBS conferences allow their members to play at lower level venues. Period.

How did that cupcake-type schedule work out for MSU last year?

I don't think the cupcakes were the problem....

If we got a defense as bad as the kitties, we got a lot more problems than who we schedule.

How about School of Mines, get a preview from where offensive genius come from, then again that would more than likely not be a contest, since they lost their offensive genius....

At least for the first time eGriz Nostradamuses, would see where their offensive genius came from for the first time.

Im sure none have witnessed a School of Mines game...

You are consistent if nothing else....

The Sun Belt Conference has to decide after the 2015 season whether to extend or terminate Idaho and New Mexico State as football only members. No time table that I'm aware of, though. Travel costs are a big issue, and NMSU has offered $100,000 per year for the next three years to off-set those costs. Eastern Kentucky wants to go Sun Belt and is willing to spend $10 million for facilities upgrades, and admission fee. Idaho has, evidently, been $ilent. The hole in the Griz schedule may fill itself after the SBC meets. Idaho seems to be on the bubble, and may need to schedule some independent games as a FBS independent, or as a Big Sky team, again.

That only works for 2016 if it is a Griz home game.....Griz not going to Moscow with only 5 home games...

How did that cupcake-type schedule work out for MSU last year?

How has it worked for NDSU the past 4 years?

NDSU has hardly had cupcake schedules. Wins over Minnesota, CO St., Kansas St. and Iowa St. in the last 5 years does a pretty good job of offsetting their single DII in that period. And they don't schedule NAIAs like EWU has (MT Western).

Here is their last 4 years of non conf games, all championship years...they tend to play 1 good team each year and the rest are terrible...it seems to work out just fine....

2011 - home against Lafayette, home against St. Francis, FBS at Minnesota
2012 - home against Robert Morris, home against PV A&M, FBS at Colorado State
2013 - home against Ferris State, home against Delaware Sate, FBS at Kansas State, this was even a 12 game year where they only scheduled 11 games because they didn't want to screw up their system of scheduling that works and put themselves in a bad situation
2014 - at Weber, home against the Griz, home against Incarnate Word, FBS at Iowa State

Their only DII, Ferris St., 9/7/13, was a scrambling last minute substitute for preseason heavyweight Montana St., who bought out late. So they had both Kansas St. and MSU scheduled along with Delaware St., 6-5 the previous year. So your theory is not so ironclad. Regarding the highlighted above, do you have some inside information or a link? Most FCS programs in the western part of the country don't have the level of control of their scheduling you suggest.

the only FCS team so far that has advertised availability for 9/17/2016 :
Hampton University (FCS)
Last Updated: 2015-10-05 08:52:10
2016: 9/3 Home or Away, 9/17 Home or Away

If you need a DII team, why not Stitt's old rival CSU-Pueblo? They'd have to give up a home game to come to WAgriz but maybe worth it for them.
