So we will play a team like st.francis and everybody will show up like sheep. After beating up a couple of D2 teams we can all leave the game feeling good, come home and post about what a great season it's going to be. We need to keep telling ourselves that everything is going to be fine

Are you saying that St Francis plays at the D2 level.....because they are not a D2 team.....they are FCS....but they might play at a D2 level....
As pointed out previously in this thread, St. Francis plays in the FCS Northeast Conference and was 6-5 last year.

I like the idea of grabbing the top of division 2 then, NW Missouri State or Pueblo or someone like that...Not another OK Panhandle State or Ft Lewis

We've had a really good run of schedules in recent years, and, it was set to continue with the home-and-home with McNeese, but that contract was dissolved. Haslam did well to quickly secure the Northern Iowa deal, but, eventually, we were going to run into a schedule like next year's. It's just the nature of the beast. I will mention again though, the DII game was a last resort. Kent tried his best to secure another FCS home game. It hasn't worked out. And while some fans may not care if the Griz play six home games in an 11-game season, I'm sorry, but the university and the city of Missoula cares very, very much and that's just the way it's going to be.

edit: and yes, poorgriz making fun of the 2016 Griz' schedule is about as ironical as it can get on this board.
So a D-II is a given/certainty at this point?
Not yet a certainty, but I as I've stated before, I believe the budget cuts will drive it. I suspect it may already be done, but KH wants to pick his time to announce it. If the home BBall schedule is any picture, let's just hope it is a DII and not Western or MT Tech to really save State money.

Well, while the home BB schedule hasn't been great, it's certainly not terrible either, with Boise and San Fran. Yes, the other 3 games were Frontier teams, but when you're playing Kansas, Gonzaga, San Fran, Boise, Pepperdine, Washington, etc, you're due a gimmie or 3.

And really, that just shows how hard it is to get teams to come to Missoula. Shit, if our FB team played a schedule like that, people would be crying to see a Western Montana on the schedule, just to get a win.

I'm preeeeettttyy sure our football team could beat Gonzaga, San Fran and Pepperdine. Just sayin'.....

Probably depends on the money situation. A fat check from an FBS game might be just what the budget needs.
It would have to be really fat to offset a 5 game home schedule.

You guys play at NAU & EWU next year in conference, those games will test you. Add in your game at UNI and thats three really tough games right there. Cal Poly will probably be improved as well. If I'm Haslam, I'd be looking for another cupcake at home as the Griz don't have the easiest road schedule next year. Sometimes a D2 isn't that bad of a deal.

Look at Easterns schedule to start next year, @Wazzu, @NDSU, UNI....those games are great, but 3 in a row like that to start the year can be absolutely brutal and a playoff killer...

Cue the large amount of NDSU fans that scroll our boards...

I would like to see a San Diego as well. Getting to 7 wins will be difficult with the road schedule Montana has but if they charge $25 to watch a DII then I will be mad. Biting the hand that feeds you

Yes, 2016 in Fargo, 2017 in Cheney...

I would love seeing us play a southern team with a home at home sometime. Bring up McNeese or JMU or Sam Houston or SFA. That way I could go see my griz play when they come down south. most thos schools are an easy drive from Dallas.

Would it make sense for teams like: New Mexico, New Mexico State, North Texas, and Idaho with lacking attendance and ticket prices to schedule a home & home game with the Griz?
