2016 Schedule-one more opponent?

Nothing wrong with a D2, may have been a benefit this year. Get cash infused into local economy, get the 2nd and 3rd string so early development, during a live game. Win-Win

I agree that there are benefits to a D2 game. This fan base is so eat the cake too, it's ridiculous. We need the money, it's good for Missoula, it's a win, gets players in the game etc. some years no, but next year it's not so bad. And why won't people go? Or why waste my season tickets? The big boys play down yearly as well. For many of the same reasons. If I lived there, I'd go and scream...knowing we will win and for the WaGriz experience. Now, I would rather have an FCS school as it's better competition, counts toward the "recommended" number of wins, and still makes money, but in this day and age, it's not always feasible.

I'd love to see us bring in Colorado-Pueblo or School of Mines, at least that D2 game would have a story line. CSU Pueblo is a good D2 program and Mines would just be fun because of Stitt's connection etc. Obviously I'd rather have an FCS/FBS opponent but a home game is always fun.

I doubt Stitt would get on board with bringing Pueblo here; Wristen has his number and has figured out his "unique" offense. Mines averaged but 16+ points per game in Stitt's last 4 against Pueblo, all losses. Too risky.

Did (does) CSU-Pueblo have the same recruiting restrictions Mines had?

"My offense can beat any defense."

Isn't the whole reason we don't like D2 opponents is because the games aren't entertaining? I don't think it'd be risky, I think it'd be a fun game and we'd get them at our place, i'd like our chances. Pueblo would be a worthy D2 opponent.

Nowhere even close. Pueblo takes in about 94% of applicants, graduates 16% in 4. While Mines takes about 34%, and graduates 64%. Sociology is the top major @ Pueblo, engineering as we know @ Mines.

Some people may not think that matters.

I think it matters. The fact Stitt was able to be successful with THAT yoke hanging over his shoulders says reams about his abilities as a coach.

AZ, you know this doesn't matter. Only surface "facts" matter. All D2 situations are the same. :thumb:

Oh, I'm perfectly aware in the "egriz world" it doesn't matter.

I really don't think you're entitled to ridicule anyone's schedule after the smattering of desserts that was your schedule last year.

You kidding? Those desserts were the only teams the 'scats could BEAT last year!

So we will play a team like st.francis and everybody will show up like sheep. After beating up a couple of D2 teams we can all leave the game feeling good, come home and post about what a great season it's going to be. We need to keep telling ourselves that everything is going to be fine

Are you saying that St Francis plays at the D2 level.....because they are not a D2 team.....they are FCS....but they might play at a D2 level....

Sounds like Bobcatnation!

We've had a really good run of schedules in recent years, and, it was set to continue with the home-and-home with McNeese, but that contract was dissolved. Haslam did well to quickly secure the Northern Iowa deal, but, eventually, we were going to run into a schedule like next year's. It's just the nature of the beast. I will mention again though, the DII game was a last resort. Kent tried his best to secure another FCS home game. It hasn't worked out. And while some fans may not care if the Griz play six home games in an 11-game season, I'm sorry, but the university and the city of Missoula cares very, very much and that's just the way it's going to be.

edit: and yes, poorgriz making fun of the 2016 Griz' schedule is about as ironical as it can get on this board.

So a D-II is a given/certainty at this point?
