2016 Schedule-one more opponent?

With Washington looming in 2017, I doubt we will schedule another FBS team in 2016.

you won't see a FBS team in 2016 because they are looking for a home game to complete the schedule...

Haslam didn't have much choice. He wanted an FCS game but not a home-and-away, and most top FCS teams insist on playing Montana at home first. It won't be Mines either though.

Sad as it is, I think I'd prefer a DII game to scheduling one of the other 19 BSC schools as a noncon.

Thanks again, Commish!! Doing a bang-up job!!

Not me. But what about a Southland team? Incarnate Word? Houston Baptist? Lamar? NONE of the SLC teams have an open date?

Again, they don't want to play Montana in a one-off. They want home-and homes with Montana coming their way first. It's unfortunate, but it's the way it goes. Haslam has tried hard, trust me. But he ran into a brick wall, as pretty much every FCS squad he wanted on the schedule refused to come to Missoula in 2016. Even the Northern Iowa thing was a struggle as they aren't coming to Missoula until 2018.

Interesting. If I were an FCS squad, NEXT year in Missoula might be the best time in the next 5 years to catch Montana in Montana. 9 of 11 D-starters gone? Underperforming O-line? Sounds like about as big of a recipe for success as they're ever gonna get...

Thanks again, Engstrom, for insisting that the Dakota schools get invited.

WTF???

There aren't Dakata schools. Although at least they'd make fucking sense. Psu. Unc. Even Davis and poly, two great programs, don't make sense.

Yes, I know there aren't "Dakata" schools, but there are Dakota schools. North Dakota. Ever heard of them. And Engstrom was the one who called South Dakota to give them their invitation.

Davis and Cal Poly made great sense, and are very good academic and good football additions. They enhance the quality of the Big Sky, and are the 2 best academic schools in the Big Sky. Otherwise, they probably may have gone to the WAC. Wasn't PSU at the top of the conference this year? Not good enough for you?

And it would be AWWWWWWWEEEEESOOOOOOMMMMMMMEEEEEEEE to have USD. Why would anyone think that's a bad idea? It would give the conference an even number, they could split into divisions, they wouldn't have the awkward Idaho basketball only deal, there would be obvious (and sensible!) travel partners, and there'd be a real fucking champion decided. And then maybe we could work to expunge all the dead weight we're carrying in this fucking conference.

And poly and davis make no sense as FB members only.

And no, a team that wins once a generation and draws 1100 per game for football and plays basketball in a gym smaller than Wiboux High does, in fact, suck shit, and is no where near good enough to be in a conference with Montana.

I thought SUU was "at the top of the conference this year" but how many people care.... CPSLO 8945, UND 7486, SacSt 6636, UC Davis 6121, PSU 4583, UNC 4207, SUU 3261. 2014 numbers. Big time.

So, teams that beat the s--t out of the Griz are actually not good enough to play the Griz? Interesting logic.

Cmon, Hav. You're better than that. It's about program.

I know there are some on here who care only about FB, and that's all they consider as to what "makes sense" for the conference.

But the reality is, psu and many others (I'm looking at you, Sac and unc) make NO SENSE WHATSOEVER in the bsc. Sure, they'll win a FB game now and again. But when your BB arena holds 900, when your total football attendance for the year doesn't equal one Montana game, when you nearly play the bsc title game in a yoga studio, when your basketball RPI has never been above 300, when you demand that the basketball tournament get moved to state who doesn't give two shits about bsc BB so your team can save $225 on hotel rooms for the weekend, when your women's BB program draws less than 2,000 for the YEAR!, do you really belong with Montana? Me thinks no. I'd much rather have a flagship school like South Dakota (not to mention NDSU and SDSU, but there is no fucking way they are leaving; they're in a real conference, one who gets it)

According to the AFCA website, Hampton University (FCS) is looking for a 2016 home or away game on 9/17 (http://www.afca.com/article/article.php?id=18&page=2). So it seems likely they'd be willing to play at Wash-Griz. Not clear if they're looking for a return date but I'd imagine this one is on Haslem's radar.

Hampton would be vastly preferable to a pud D2 team. Lets hope the AD shows some interest in a competitive schedule and respect for Griz football fans in his decision.

I don't know why we can't just schedule BSC conference foes Binghampton and Hartford - the quintessential BSC schools.
