As for losing and gaining recruits, this year is no different than others. It happens to every program in the nation. What makes it harder and more disappointing this year? To me, it is how highly rated/regarded the lost recruits are nationally. Granted the rating system is not an exact science. Some higher rated recruits will fall. Some lower rated or not rated recruits will be pleasant surprises.
Also, these losses seem a little more significant being they are all areas of needs to fill out the GRIZ depth chart. Like it or not, accept it or not, fact is these recruits were likely expected to contribute this season, especially at DT. I am not as worried about OL, being our young OL went through much of their growing pains last season. They actually were a pretty solid group by the end of the season. I also feel Stitt's offense will lessen the pressure of OL having to sustain blocks for too long. Stitt's passing game consists of usually quick pass plays. It does not overly rely on long passes that allows for more QB pressure.
I don't take GRIZ fans on egriz panicking about the lost recruits. I feel it is more disappointment, and frustration than panicking. These recruits, no doubt in my mind would have helped the GRIZ be better sooner than most recruits do. With these lost recruits, the GRIZ go from having a program monumental class, to a status quo recruiting class. Either way, as with any class, we won't know the quality of this class for another 4 to 5 years.
For me, it is encouraging we have passionate fans taking the time to express themselves on egriz. Am I worried, frustrated, and disappointed in the recent lost recruits? Yes. Am I panicking over the lost recruits? Far from it, more like a little concerned in the lost of quality depth at key positions. I feel many of us fall into that mindset.
