Plan on taking Kyon Clark off the list. UCLA in home visit scheduled for 1/30.

Mau Ena is in this weekend. Time for Stitt, et.al., to work some magic. Kid's a monster already.
Gonna be a fight. He just met with Boise State. CSU last week.

I hope we have a plan B, because we don't have many incoming ol and dl prospects with all those who are decomitting. We are loaded with skill positions, but not a whole lot else right now.

No doubt. We have added an abundance of WR's and have lost a lot of beef the last 2 weeks. It makes me wonder whether coach Stitt has a different type of lineman he values. Losing DL hurts. Losing top notch DL really hurts. This looks to me to be our biggest need. There's really not a lot of depth. If injuries hit the DL like they did the OL last year, we're in a world of hurt.

None of this should be surprising. Early commits hope to get the attention of "others" and end up at UNLV  I agree that Green and Stitt better pay attention to the line of scrimmage or all that speed won't matter. February 4th seems forever.

Have to keep reminding ourselves that recruiting season doesn't end on the 4th. There are going to be a ton of kids that won't have committed. There's going to be opportunities all throughout the year.

Apologies if posted earlier.

In the photo are Cy Sirmon, Jayson Williams, Jerrin Williams, Kamron Johnson, Clayton Jimmerson, Sam McPherson, and some others with Coach Stitt in the middle.

It was posted already. Glad you posted it again though. With the recent decommits, I am sure this class has dropped down quite a bit in ratings. Neale and Baker were pretty highly rated for this level. I pray we don't lose anymore recruits, and get a few unexpected late. If not, I'd keep a scholarship or 2 open for drop down transfers at OL, DL, and CB. Many players choose to transfer after or during spring drills, when the depth chart plays out more. :thumb:

We may end up offering others or holding on to a few for after spring ball to see if any drop downs are looking for a home. Mike want to make that offer to Ferriter now.

Know Sims is in the photo and also pretty sure Bingham.

The decommits of Baker and Neale have absolutely nothing to do with Stitt's "philosophy" or "breed" of linemen he wants. Those two got offers from bigger schools and that's that. It happens to the Griz, it happens to the Cats, it even happens to almighty North Dakota State. Yes, UNLV is a bottom of the barrel program, but what makes any of us (couch coaches) think for one second, that Alex Neale doesn't think he can be the guy, and his class can be the class that eventually turns it around? Without knowing Neale from Adam, I would bet my left arm he didn't say "Oh well, UNLV sucks and I plan on going there to lose". If that was his mentality, I don't think the Griz coaching staff would want him in Missoula anyway.

Bottom line, FBS schools like UNLV and New Mexico are going to take three-star recruits later in the game, after all the "better" players on their boards have been taken elsewhere. Montana and Montana State do the same exact thing, just with lower-ranked players.

It's all trickle down, bigger programs take second tier commits the closer it gets to signing day, and the second tier takes FCS commits. We have never had this many 2 and 3 star commits, knew we were going to lose some, lets be happy for those who chose to stay. Awesome class.

Spot on Hav. Good Post. :thumb:

Also, does anyone wonder if Sims is waiting for the same kind of offer to come through? Seems hard for me that one with previous Oregon State aspirations would be waiting to decide on griz or cats. Seems like he might be waiting for a different offer.

these two posts make a whole lot of sense to me....

No need to fret about losing these players - the winnowing process works as it should. We keep the verbals that truly were committed to the GRIZ program and the rest move on to what in their minds is a more prestigious opportunity. The slots freed up can be used for the last minute quality players who wait too long and suddenly their door to the promised land is slammed shut. Their spot is gone. If I remember right Trumaine was one who fell in our lap at the last second and he is now a starting cornerback in the NFL! Or, we keep available scholarships for later when quality players become disenchanted with their dream team/school/location for any of a myriad of reasons. It all works out for the best - you can bet your ass there is a Plan B! Relax, GRIZ fans, we're in good hands!!

Well said, '62 !!!

"Don't worry, be happy !" in the words of Bobby McFerrin.

I think most of us will have a smile on or face next Wed., Feb. 4, after the 2015 class is presented to us and the media by Coach Stitt and staff.

Good perspective guys. I've really only followed Griz recruiting for the past 3 or so years. In those 3 years, I don't ever remember us ever having a 3-star listed on our verbal page. Not to say there weren't any, I just don't remember. So, having a bunch of them commit and pump up the program throughout the year was pretty exciting. Have 4 of them jump ship in the last 2 weeks is a little disappointing. I'm not saying anything negative about who we still have on board because I think we've got a lot of talent coming in. I'm very excited about the guys we still have. I am excited about every one of them. All I'm saying is it's disappointing to lose the highly ranked players. Who knows whether any of them would have worked out. Just like who knows what hidden gem we're going to get that we haven't heard of yet. I'm sure I speak of a lot of us on the board even the one's who have experienced the recruiting rollercoaster for a long time.

That said, I hope we've got some OL and DL gems waiting in the wings!

I'm not sure its a safe bet that all these kids are out there like stockbrokers, looking for the "bigger, better deal." One thing about recruiting "in-state" by "in-state" schools is the likelihood that the "in-state kid" has been looking at a particular school all his life, and his realization that he could do sports maybe meant he could do sports at "his school." Childhood loyalties can go a long ways. There are still Cubs fans. There are still Cat fans.

I read some of the biographies of these good kids, "recruited" for various sports, and see that they were "self-recruited," that they always wanted to be a "Griz" or perhaps even a "Cat," being resolved against their lifelong wish sometimes with a scholarship over a "walk on," but undying loyalty if they can get their dream, often with family program ties. You don't get that with the "out-of-staters" nearly so much unless you have special ties to a high school program somewhere and the Griz have some good ones.

I just don't buy it that the talented kids are inevitably looking at FBS schools if they can get the look.

I don't necessarily think all kids are out actively shopping to FBS schools, but most will listen if a FBS school shows interest and at this point in the recruiting cycle, schools are reaching out.

I was afraid of this. I know Justin had talked to Wilkes out if CMR , nows is the time to go get that All State Lineman before he walks on with MSU
