Just looking and comparing some of the main offensive stat categories from so far this year to last year:

..............................2014...............2015
Points per game...........29.6...............25.6
Rush yds per game........167.9.............121.6
Avg per rush................5.1................3.4
Pass yds per game.........226.6.............322.6
Avg per catch...............13.................10.8
Total Offense...............344...............444
Yards per play..............6.2................5.1
Red zone scoring....40/45 89%..............18/23 78%
Red zone TDs........29/45 64%...............9/23 39%
Time of possession........28:09..............26:11

Some interesting observations:
- 100 yards more per game this year (granted more plays being run)
- last year we only had 45 red zone opportunities in 14 games (3.2 opps per game)
- this year through five games we have already had 23 red zone opportunities (4.6 opps per game)
- TOP hasn't fallen off dramatically from last year, but one could argue it wasn't strong last year either
- red zone TDs last year were much more successful than this year so far (64% vs 39%)
- 100 more passing yards per game so far this year
- 47 less rushing yards per game so far this year
- averaged 5.1 yards per carry last year compared to only 3.4
- averaged 13 yards per catch last year compared to 10.8 this year (thought there would be a bigger difference with all the bubble screens....meaning was surprised we are still averaging almost 11 yards per catch so far)

Opponents were not of same class last year. Running backs learning college game. Put Canada and Travon in this offense you see huge numbers. It will be ok.

Bingo.

I posted this because I like some of the trends.....specifically the red zone scoring opportunities. We only had that opportunity 3.2 times per game last year and are at 4.6 opportunities per game this year. That is an awesome improvement and one that deals directly with the bottom line....scoring. Now if we can start scoring TDs at the same clip as last year then everyone would be thrilled with the offense. I also like the 100 yards more of offense per game. Our total offense per game is not bad at all.

To put tjat into further perspective, if we were scoring TDs at a 64% rate like last year, then our 23 opportunities this year would have produced 15 TDs instead of the 9 so far. That is 42 more points through 5 games (provided we hit the PAT which isn't automatic) or 8.4 more points per game. So we'd be averaging 34 points per game at that rate.

Griz have what they have. Graduations can be forseen. No replacements? Why? Pin it on the responsible party. Name names. It used to be said, long ago, that the Griz just reload, not rebuild. That came to a screeching halt in December 2009. Face it, the Griz are in full blown rebuild mode. Compared to the 'old days,' the 2015 Griz are pathetic. A shell of what once was, and STILL living off the events of '93-'09, as are a large number of fans. Who is more blind, the man who cannot see, or the man who will not see? Stepping down from the soapbox now, sugar anyone?

yep and we'd be 4-1 and games would have been laughers....really not that far off.

Griz are on their 4th coach (and offensive system) in 6 years. They're operating on reduced scholarships. Other teams (EWU, MSU, CP, etc) have stepped up their game significantly over the past 5-6 years. To expect "business as usual" through that is ludicrous. Doesn't mean I'm happy about it. Doesn't mean I like it. But I AM realistic about my expectations.
