Looks like they were working on read-option plays when this happened. As has been stated, the offense is not changing entirely.

By "Pro-Style" it sounds like they're going for what Washington/San Francisco run in the NFL.

I just love the versatility of this team!

CAMP NOTES: What is getting to be a regular occurrence in fall camp, QB Jordan Johnson's pass to sophomore transfer Jamaal Jones was good for a 60-yard touchdown. In the previous play, sophomore safety Justin Whitted had a diving pass break-up to thwart a potential TD by the offense. In team drills Johnson hit sophomore wide receiver Ellis Henderson for a 40-yard completion. Junior offensive tackle Trevor Poole returned to practice after missing a few days because of an injury.

Thursday morning's practice ended on another fun drill. This one had the offensive line and defensive line competing against each other in fielding punts. The offense edged the "D" 5-4. Senior offensive co-captain Danny Kistler Jr. probably had the most impressive grab, making the catch with his hands. The defense had a chance to tie the competition, but D-line coach Legi Suiaunoa barely missed his attempt, which was on the last punt of the day.

The team practices in the stadium again today at 7:45 p.m. The second (and possibly last) scrimmage of fall camp is slated for Saturday, Aug. 17, starting around 10:10 a.m. in WGS and is open to the publi

Senior starters at linebacker providing excellent leadership
Coyle, Kanongata'a and Tripp lead the way for the Grizzlies' talented linebacking corps

"Yea, I am biased," said Gregorak following UM's morning workout on Thursday. "It's never perfect, but with those three it's close to perfect every day. Those three stayed all summer, and they're about as good as it gets as far as off-the-field leadership and grabbing the young guys and teaching them the way to be Grizzlies. I just can't say enough about the three of them, and the group in general.

"I've said it before, that I would not trade those three for any three linebackers at any level, FCS or FBS, and I know that sounds like a huge statement," Delaney said earlier this season. "That is just a tremendous threesome at linebacker. They have tremendous work ethic."

"Jeremiah is going to be a really, really good player for us," Gregorak said. Addison Owen is everything you look for in a linebacker. It's his third year and he needs to become a dude. He's going to get quality reps. That's where we weren't good enough last year, and where I erred and played those starting three too much.

"You know how I like to coach, and that is rotate players back-and-forth, but I just didn't feel like I had that quality depth like I do this year," Gregorak said. "I think it's there now, and Kenderick and Connor add a nice boost too. I think we've got seven linebackers who will all see the field a lot this year. Overall I am very pleased with the play of those guys in the first 10 days of fall camp."

"As far as team morale and jelling among the team, we're closer than any team I've been on since I've been here, and this is my fifth year," Tripp said. "I've been on championship teams before, and they were close, but not as close as us. It has a different feel and everybody believes what we can do and how we prepare. If you believe in what you prepare that's definitely a step in the right direction and part of that team morale and playing together as one unit."

after looking at Wilson's legs and power,,,he would look great coming out of the backfield with a check down pass from jj....Wilson is a man out there....

“We’re good and we want to become great,” senior linebacker Brock Coyle said after Thursday morning’s practice. “That’s our goal this year. Every day we see strides in the film room from younger guys picking up the defense to older guys making real good plays.

“That’s going to be our priority going down the road here tomorrow, Saturday and the next two weeks. We don’t need to do a whole bunch more live, hard tackling stuff. We just need to refine everything where we can play hard and not have to think.”

QUICK KICKS: QB Jordan Johnson had two impressive throws on deep routes Thursday morning. He hit Washington transfer Jamaal Jones on a 60-yard bomb up the seam and later connected with Ellis Henderson from 40 yards away ... Junior offensive tackle Trevor Poole returned to practice after missing a few days because of an injury ... The Griz finished up their first of two practices with a fun punt-catching competition pitting offensive linemen against defensive linemen. Tackle Danny Kistler Jr. got the offense off to a good start with his soft hands. From there it went back and forth before the offense emerged with the win and the defense did a little extra conditioning ... The Griz will hold their second scrimmage Saturday at 10:10 a.m. It is open to the public and there is no charge for admission.

These certainly stood out:

In skelly, sophomore QB Trent McKinney had a 65-yard scoring pass to Rogers....in the next series redshirt freshman quarterback Brady Gustafson connected with Rogers for another 65-yard TD.

TM must really have been practicing over the summer.

Or it was a quick slant and Rogers did all the work. Hard to say really.

Coach Williams says UM's cornerbacks are improving every day
Griz to hold second and final scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday morning, Aug. 17 in WGS

"It's going great and I am very happy about where my guys are at from where we started at the beginning of camp," said Williams, who was a two-time All-Pac 10 cornerback pick at Oregon State, lettering there from 2001-04. "They all four started at one time last season and they are all fighting for a starting position.

"Right now I expect all of them to play, especially those four guys [Murray, Goodwin, Harris, Dennard]," Williams continued. "Right now JR Nelson, who was a redshirt freshman last year, has been playing amazingly well. He's hungry and he wants a chance to start too. I told them to make it hard on me (on choosing a starter) and they are definitely doing that."

Also in the mix are a trio of gifted freshmen. One or two of those newcomers, Ryan McKinley (6-1, 187, from Boulder Creek HS in Anthem, Ariz.), Chris Parker (6-0, 175, from Washington HS in Sioux Falls, S.D.), and Marquin Russell (6-0, 185, from Lakes HS in Lakewood, Wash.), may see action this season.

"Chris Parker, Ryan McKinley and Marquin Russell have come so far since day one to where they are now," Williams said. "I think they all have bright futures here at the University of Montana. They're all three going to be great defensive backs here. Hopefully we won't need any of them to play (this season) and they can have long careers and be part of the future of this program. Their potential is unlimited right now."

HIGHLIGHTS IN TEAM AND SKELLY DRILLS TODAY: The defense made several big plays today. Defensive end Zack Wagenmann forced QB Jordan Johnson out of the pocket and he had to pass the ball out of bounds to avoid a sack. DE Tyrone Holmes read a screen pass to halfback Joey Counts and stopped him for a 4-yard loss. Cornerback Nate Harris blew up a screen pass which resulted in a 2-yard loss, and he also had a nice PD in coverage of WR Ellis Henderson. Linebacker J.P. Kanongata'a read an end-around play and stopped it for a loss. Anderson stopped promising freshman tight end Mike Ralston (a 6-5 ½, 245-pounder from Sheldon HS in Eugene, Ore.) for a 3-yard loss on a screen pass.

that press coverage mentioned in the article is music to my ears.............

This. "I definitely feel like I'm better on my preparation, my footwork, and my jamming, since we're going to be pressing on every down," Murray said. "That's definitely what I've been trying to improve on." :thumb:

A few of us ( I wonder who?) were saying this last season. Then again, those few don't know anything.

yah, the press is much better than 10 yds off the line, however it wasn't so much the corners as it was the safety play we are still not hearing the rock music out of those positions......maybe they will feature that next week. :? even in bill's video he is still tentative about them with the "we will see if they improved over last year"...whatever, i hear ya bill.
app state will test em to the max.....they will be on so many covers it will make their heads swim...
and i'm not talking about sports illustrated either........of course, unless they pull it off.... ok..maybe the college edition :)

I'm glad the secondary will be tested early and often against App State. That way they can show who they are. I think they will show well :thumb:

Coach Delaney pleased with overall results in final Griz scrimmage of fall camp
Montana now just two weeks away from its opener against powerhouse Appalachian State on Aug. 31

"We were a little up and down," Delaney said. "I think the defense came out with a little bit of a chip on its shoulders sort-of-speak after last week, and that's the way it should be," Delaney said. "They (the defense) probably had a little more emotion than the offense did, at least at times during the scrimmage. Overall though, I thought we did some good things in all three phases of the game.

"I think we (the offense) have progressed every day," said Johnson, who was 3-7-1 passing for 64 yards. "We're still installing some stuff every other day. It's all going to be good stuff, but we're still learning. Come game week we will have everything in and be ready to go."

"We're taking pride in having a solid front seven," said Wagenmann, a first team all-league selection last season. "We are trying to set the tone up front and hopefully that carries throughout the next two levels as well. We want to be a physical front and play with a high motor.

The scrimmage started with work on the field goal kicking aspect of the game, and UM's three kickers had a solid day, going a combined 11-of-14. True freshman Ben Worst (Twin Falls HS, Idaho) showed why he is challenging for the start job, making all six attempts, with a long of 49. Sophomore incumbent Chris Lider made his first four tries, but missed his last two. Redshirt freshman Harrison Greenberg was 1-of-2, and nailed a 48-yarder.

"We spent a lot of time this week team-kicking wise," Delaney said. "When I say kicking, I mean PAT and field goals -our punting has been stellar all along. It was way better today than it was a week ago. That job (PAT, FG) is still open as far as I am concerned. We will continue to let them compete, and we'll have to make a decision pretty soon. I can foresee that being a weekly competition."

"We are a tight group, definitely," said Johnson. "It says it right there on our poster - UNITED. That's kind of our theme. We are brothers, and you'd do anything for the guy standing next to you. I think if we execute like we know that we can on both sides of the football, we all know what we can do this year."

“I like it a lot,” said Poehls, who has come back strong from shoulder surgery in December. “It’s more of a ground-and-pound, just being mean. Just going out and hitting people and that’s one of my favorite things to do.

“It doesn’t matter how big that D-tackle is when you got me and Danny Kistler on the right side, just 600 pounds worth of man bowling everyone over.”

Montana needed to do something in the offseason to improve its efficiency in the red zone. It ranked 11th out of 13 Big Sky Conference teams in that category last season.

“The biggest transition from what we’ve done is the verbiage,” Gragg said. “We crossed that bridge in the spring. We gave them everything and it was information overload.

“When we came here (in August) we had everything installed and we hit the ground running from Day One.”

QUICK KICKS: In Oiland’s absence, junior Logan Hines has been getting the reps at center with the first team ... Senior tight end Clay Pierson continues to be sidelined by a turf toe injury and junior running back Travon Van has been sidelined by a knee injury. Van said he hopes to return to practice “in a few days” ... Sophomore cornerback Jamaal Anderson returned to practice Friday after missing a couple of days with a minor injury
