Maybe I am just behind the times. I just have never known any fan base, other than ours these days, to call for bringing backup QBs in early in the game to get them experienced. It seems preposterous to me, but I have been very, very wrong before. (I did pick Ryan Simpson as my offensive breakout player of the year, after all)
Well like Skyline sports said on their show, the whole backup QB thing started 30 years ago when Dave Dickenson was a backup and the starter got hurt. And when he came in, the rest is history. And there were a bunch of others who were backups that became starters and were really successful. And after watching Ah Yat come in when the game was really close and put up our first offensive TD, it really excited a lot of die hard fans who have followed the team for decades.
